?Judge Highlight - Johann Beukes?

Palm Beach Tech is hosting another Hackathon ?? this year at the Office Depot headquarters in Boca Raton, Florida from October 4th - 6th. This year will be a 24 hour event with the theme "Smart Cities & Hurricane Relief." The City of Boca Raton and Florida Power & Light (FPL) are also presenting sponsors.

We have five esteemed judges this year from companies including Microsoft, Modernizing Medicine, Levatas, PGA of America, and Office Depot. We will be highlighting one judge each day to give you a little more insight into who will be on our panel.

JUDGE HIGHLIGHT: Johann Beukes

Johann is a seasoned technology expert with 20 years of experience designing and architecting software and data solutions. He has built and led global software, data and data science teams, delivering state-of-the-art products and services for brands such as Bankrate.com, Office Depot, NextEra Energy and several other Fortune 100 and 500 companies. Passionate about delivering business value fast, and often failing fast, Johann has implemented Agile processes like Scrum and CRISP-DM for several companies over the years and is currently leading a talented group of Data and Analytics specialists at Levatas.

Johann holds an M.S. in data science from Northwestern University where he studied predictive analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. He also earned a B.S. from Lynn University in cognitive psychology with focuses on behavior modeling and research methods. Additionally, Johann has been a speaker for Snowflake Computing, and lead the team who implemented the first Snowflake Software as a service Data Warehouse solution in Florida.

He’s helped companies like Office Depot with evaluation, strategy, and planning for large legacy data migrations, developed Neural Networks for Computer Vision projects at Florida Power and Light and used Natural Language Understanding at Royal Caribbean to build next-generation interactive solutions. Outside of work, he enjoys working out and practicing martial arts 6 to 7 days a week, relishes traveling with his high school sweetheart and wife of 20 years, reading non-fiction, and cooking interesting vegan dishes.
