The Judge is Harsh, the Wise Sage Forgives

?Leadership GLUE: Tip #69

[Positive Intelligence - PQ] A Formula for Forgiveness.

The Judge is Harsh, The Wise Sage Forgives

To forgive is to let go of feeling upset, angry, or resentful towards someone who has done us wrong. We hold negative feelings towards others for a long time, trying to let go of the feelings, trying to forgive. But even if we think we forgive, often the feelings resurface and we wonder why the forgiveness didn’t stick.

It’s not just others we have a hard time forgiving. It’s ourselves as well. When we feel we have fallen short of being our ideal selves we have a hard time forgiving ourselves. Our Saboteurs interfere with harsh thoughts. We criticize ourselves for our past failures and nver quite let them go.

Letting go is easier said than done. We often tell others, “Just let it go. You have to just let it go.” But that is not enough.

For lasting forgiveness, we need a mechanism for letting go of the disappointment, resentment, grudges, and other harsh feelings we have towards others and ourselves. We need to erase these deep feelings for lasting forgiveness.

PQ provides a mechanism for forgiving that will shift your energy, your thoughts and emotions from negativity to positive forgiveness. We are imperfect human beings and every day we need to forgive ourselves.

Every time I make a mistake, forget something important, or mess up I feel the sting of disappointment from my Judge Saboteur.

To forgive myself, I shift to filling myself with the compassion of my Wise Sage.?I pause to reflect on the empathy I would give my childhood essence for being less than perfect. I think of how my Wiser, Elder Self would look back at this situation and with these two perspectives I see a bigger picture. I see a picture of a human being who is imperfect. One who struggles daily to live up to a high standard of performance.

And then, with these two perspectives, I am able to call forth the compassion and empathy needed for true forgiveness.
To just say, “Let it go” is not enough. Forgiveness is a process, one that requires daily practice.
Practicing forgiveness has become a daily ritual for me. It has helped me shift from negativity to positivity. It has increased my capacity to see my human failings and understand that we will screw things up on a daily basis. And, that’s ok.

To “let it go” today, shift to the Wise Sage’s perspective of compassion and empathy toward yourself. Call in the picture of your childhood essence and the long view of the Wiser, Elder Self. Ask yourself how you would want to look back on today and how you would give yourself compassion and empathy. How would you give yourself the gift of forgiveness?

You deserve a break today. It’s called forgiveness and it will give you ease and flow.

The Elizabethtown College School of Graduate and Professional Studies - Kae Wagner, Adjunct Professor

More exciting news: I've been asked to be an Adjunct Professor at Elizabethtown College, developing and teaching a course in their Masters in Business program. The course is on Entrepreneurship and fits right in with the work I've been doing for 3 decades. I'm very excited for this opportunity and the chance to impact a new gen of entrepreneurs. I'm continuing working with business leaders and their teams, writing my next book, and playing pickleball as often as I can...yes, I've caught the pickleball fever! Soooo much fun!
