JP's Top Global Reads
Home Credit International
Delivering trusted financial products and services responsibly, to empower people to live the life they want now.
Hi, my name is Jean-Pascal Duvieusart and I’m Chairman of the Board at Home Credit. Welcome back to my regular ‘Global Reads’ feature where I personally select articles, reports or interviews from global media – and the odd book! – that have caught my interest.
For this month’s reads I have included a topline CEO survey, interesting articles about mental health, work life balance and a fun book that is one of my all-time favourites. Let me know what features have caught your attention in the comment box this month.
CEOs say the future needs to be reinvented
PwC’s annual survey of global CEOs often reveals interesting trends from the boardroom. This year’s findings are perhaps a little bleak. 40 percent of respondents believe that without serious change, their businesses will no longer be economically viable in ten years. Another big trends is the “race to reinvent.“ We are entering a new era of enterprise transformation and it seems the disruption is only just beginning. Nice practical survey to read….and it’s rare for a former McKinsey-ite (me!) to advertise a PWC survey. ??
Mental health workouts could help to re-set your brain
Is your mind feeling a bit cluttered? Is stress causing you to start forgetting things? Fascinating findings in a Boston University trial reveals that giving your brain a high stimulus could kick start a process that flushes out waste products. It was originally thought that only sleep could achieve this, but scientists believe the process could be turned on, or off. Let the de-cluttering commence....

The perk-cession is here. You lose free food and laundry, but could you have a more satisfying life?
There is a big debate underway about the shape of post-COVID working practices. Big Tech firms famously invested heavily in perks for staff such as lavish dinners or even dry-cleaning services. Now, these firms are tightening their belts, leading to what some observers are calling a ‘perk-cession.’ The free food to tempt people back to the office is not working. It will probably require some time until the after taste of work from home becomes strong enough to truly change habits.
What is the true meaning of happiness?
This is a fun novel that I’d recommend to all of you. It is about a woman who discovers she has won the lottery and makes a list of her desires, only to realise that the things she truly desires are not material possessions but love and companionship. It will take an hour or two to read and will be a nice gift to yourself. Enjoy.

1 年Thanks Jean-Pascal Duvieusart for recommending the "List of my desires"! Just finished the book and it was both entertaining and provoking. My take is that there is very thin line between blessing and curse, and that the best things are usually for free ;-)
