Hi, my name is Jean-Pascal Duvieusart and I’m Chairman of the Board at Home Credit.
Welcome back to my regular ‘JP Reads’ feature where I personally select articles, reports or interviews from global media – and the odd book! – that have caught my interest.
For many of us, the first weeks of September represent the start of autumn. Shortening days and chillier evenings. But all is not lost, I bring you a fascinating selection of reading that should inform, inspire and keep your spirits up. As ever, please let me know your thoughts in the comments section.
Mon dieu…pourquoi? Frederic Lenoir interviews l’abbé Pierre – This was one of my reading highlights of the summer. l’abbé Pierre was a catholic priest who set up a post-war movement to help the poor and support refugees. French philosopher Frederic Lenoir gets to the heart of l’abbé Pierre’s thoughts on his religious convictions and his thoughts on the meaning of life via this intimate interview. It’s a short book which leaves a big impression.
?The Fox – Frederick Forsyth – Mr Forsyth is a master of thriller writing. Remember ‘Day of the Jackal?’ His swansong book was a really memorable summer holiday read. It involves Pentagon cyber hacks and global espionage threats. The fox – it turns out – is much less the archetypal villain than you might expect. Gripping stuff.
We have heard a lot about the ‘war for talent’ out there. But what can business leaders practically do to attract and retain employees? According to HBR, it’s all about trust, accountability and aligning company vision with employee values. Sounds simple, but there’s much more to it than that.
