JP Morgan Chase & Co. has hired former Citigroup Inc. banker Carl De Geer for its commercial lending business in the Nordic region, as the lender increases its focus on small and medium-sized companies outside the US. De Geer previously led Citi’s commercial banking business in the region and before that managed a sales office at EF Education First in Saudi Arabia. He also held roles at SEB AB and the Swedish Trade Council.
“The Nordics has got a really strong base of mid-sized companies as well as fast-growing companies, and it’s an innovation economy,” said Andrew Kresse, Managing Director and Head of JP Morgan’s International Corporate Client Banking. “We like to complement local banks as we can help businesses goaround the world.”
JP Morgan’s Nordic commercial banking unit employs 5 people following recent hires including Franz Kramer and Stephanie Soybel, but Kresse says that amount may double before the year-end. One such role would be for a senior banker who will focus on venture capital-backed companies. JP Morgan’s total headcount in the Nordics amounts to more than a hundred people.
