Joyous hidden moments

There are many hidden joyous moments in the life of R&D engineers.   They are not visible to the public. Only to fortunate few. Sometimes those few can be counted on the fingers of one hand and sometimes even with one finger or two. These moments arrive after long hard hours inside the laboratory when finally a long envisioned idea successfully transmutes into reality. When the formulation works, when the cogwheels align together and a complex ensemble finally gets into motion. When a page, with a unique ink, prints for the very first time.

I cherish these moments as they are short lived. They come and quickly make room to other life moments that need our attention. In so many cases you will never hear about them and in select few, only months or even years later.

Those engineers that are fortunate enough to see their ideas mature to a product or showcased in an important trade show will probably relate to what I am about to say. 

The ability to finally share these moments with the public is precious. It energizes you. Fills your adrenaline stores. It gives you the strength to push through all the other harder moments I did not mention. The moments when things get tough, when obstacles pile your way, when the road seems blocked.

This time it is my pleasure to showcase along with my team members an incredible array of projects at our HP indigo Technology booth at Drupa.

It is a pleasure because we see the reactions on everyone’s eyes when they realize what we are showing them.  In these demos, there is this moment where one can almost see the gears start to spin in warp speed inside the listeners’ heads. When we get to share with them our hidden moment.

It is really hard to describe how incredible it feels.

So if you will see an engineer beaming a smile at you through the crowd at our HP booth, it is probably me waiting to share a hidden and joyous moment with you.
