Joylynn M. Ross and Path To Publishing – At the Cutting EDGE
Joylynn M. Ross, founder of Path To Publishing in Las Vegas, Nevada, has just been awarded a two-year membership in the Vegas Chamber’s prestigious EDGE (Entrepreneur Development for Growth and Excellence) Program for Women & Minority-Owned Small Businesses, a program funded by a Federal Grant and administered by the City of Las Vegas. In presenting this award, Program Director of the Chamber’s EDGE and Small Business Programming, Heather Rise, said, “Our team is impressed by your commitment to success and believes that EDGE will provide you with the resources, support, and connections you need to help you take your business to the next level.”
For over 25 years, Joylynn Ross has written best-selling books under several pen names across several genres and also worked on ghostwritten books that made the New York Times bestseller list. She has helped authors create, publish, and sell approximately $25 million dollars’ worth of books in multiple formats and various rights.
As a ghostwriter, she says, “I ghostwrote several books that made the New York Times bestseller list. Though I obviously can’t contractually name names, that’s what being a “ghost” writer means, one book I worked on became the basis for a theatrical film that was shown in theaters across the country. Another book project I ghostwrote and edited became the basis for a television series that has just been picked up for a third season on a major network.”
When it came to developing an established business — Path To Publishing was founded in Columbus, Ohio, almost a quarter-century ago, then relocated to Nevada in 2017 — Joylynn knew she needed strong local business contacts. “I’d been a member of the Vegas Chamber since 2018. Its resources and opportunities have played a major role in our pre-COVID success and growth. Since 2018, the local Chamber has always supported me. For instance, they graciously hosted our ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate one year of successful business in Nevada.
“I see the Chamber as the fraternity and sorority for businesses. There is an unspoken business brother-and-sisterhood among the members. For five years, I’ve been proud to be a member.”
Like so many businesses, especially those built on the foundation of strong face-to-face relationships, Path To Publishing was hard-hit by COVID. “Because PTP is still recovering — but recovering strongly — from COVID,” Joylynn explained, “I had to make some swift cuts and hard financial decisions. On the strong advice of our newly hired CPA, we actually — reluctantly — had to let our Chamber membership lapse. It was supposed to renew just a few weeks ago. So, when this EDGE program opportunity came along, I filled out the application and crossed my fingers that we would get accepted into the first cohort that started in June.

“The universe was apparently listening — as were the business gods who watch over me — because even they knew that if we want to achieve our measure of success and reach the goals we have set for company growth, we needed the support of the Vegas Chamber, the organization who has embraced and supported us since we opened for business here in Las Vegas six years ago.”
Each participant of the EDGE program will have B2B exposure, which means Business to Business exposure, and B2C exposure, which means Business to Consumer exposure. Both B2B and B2C exposure include event space in the upcoming Vegas Chamber Expos and Mixers. The first of the opportunities was the Business Expo 2023, which was on June 28, 2023. After that, the next big opportunity is Preview Las Vegas, which will take place in January 2024. Each participant’s award includes booth space for each expo.
“Being involved in the B2B Expos is a big deal,” Heather informed the award recipients. She has committed to providing them with the training, coaching, and resources to prepare them for success. In fact, she was so committed to this program and the cohorts’ success that she worked singlehandedly for weeks to bring it to fruition. She now has a wonderful Project Coordinator, Nicole Moffitt, who equally believes in the mission and vision of the program.
