The Joy of Turning Pages: A Visit to The Open Book

Oh how I love Sundays! Especially, lazy Sundays where our family schedule is completely empty and we get the chance to roam!
Over the weekend, my little family and I decided to soak in the cooler air and headed over to The Village in Woodland Hills. This fun outdoor mall is equipped with a diverse mix of retail stores that is perfect to satisfy the desires of all personalities.
Though we often frequent the center, we have never had the opportunity to visit one of the newer, larger stores, called The Open Book. So when we stumbled into this independently owned bookstore, we were pleasantly surprised that it felt like stepping into a literary treasure chest.
This shop has everything a book lover or treasure hunter could want—handpicked titles for every age and interest, gently used and like-new books at half the price, and a staff ready to recommend the perfect read or share details about their vibrant community events.
But my visit wasn’t just about snagging a bargain or getting lost in their incredible selection. It got me thinking about how books—real books, the kind you can smell, touch, and hear as you flip the pages—are having a comeback moment. We’re seeing this with the revival of chains like Barnes & Noble and the rise of independent bookstores like The Open Book. These places remind us of the magic that digital can’t replicate: the joy of discovering a story by chance, the satisfaction of a well-worn cover, and the nostalgia of a paper bookmark.
There’s a broader trend here too: circular products. The combination of old and new is no longer just a niche—it’s the future. From furniture to fashion, and yes, even books, businesses embracing pre-loved items are leading the charge in sustainability. Stores like The Open Book are pioneers in this movement, proving that secondhand doesn’t mean second-best—it means thoughtful, resourceful, and full of character.

For retailers, this is a golden opportunity to adapt. Stores like The Open Book are a perfect fit for events like ASD Market Week, where independent and specialty retailers can find unique items to complement used goods and optimize basket size. Need a curated selection of new releases to pair with your pre-owned inventory? Or perhaps gently used products to attract budget-conscious customers? ASD is where it all comes together.
If you’re ready to explore the possibilities, let’s connect. I’d love to share how attending ASD Market Week can elevate your store and your inventory. Because just like The Open Book, your store deserves to stand out.
