The joy of free pear tart , partnering Centre point London & SELCE & power of love in our community

On Wednesday We Care at Kaths Place Deptford was donated almost 200 pear tarts far to many to store and so late in the day all our food bank and food pantry members had gone for the day, standing in the dark and rain on Friendly street the only solution was to knock doors and stop people in the street and give to everyone who could take and would enjoy, its probably the best PR we could have hoped for , all week people have been dropping into our Community Hub , buying gifts, face masks, signing up for the food pantry and bringing our space to live in a way we could only dream. as one person wrote on social media

This week we have partnered with Centre Point the charity working with young people 16-26 years old without work and looking for a career in Charity , Community sector area a growing sector of the career and jobs market and also working with Green Energy project SELCE that started its life at We Care when we had our base on New Cross road some years ago and has grown from strehghth to strength raising a ￡1 million in share investment in its green energy projects in or community tackling fuel poverty. whilst the missed picture opportunity of the week was the elderly gent with a copy of Deptford local history book we sell at ￡2.50 under his arm and fairy wings on his back that he bought as a Christmas gift for someone special and being Deptford had no issues walking through Deptford wearing fairy wings at 87 years young.

But our Work is much more than just feeding those going hungry in our communty and the huge number coming through our doors who are in work but the 30% cut in wages is what they used to spend on food , finding themselves unable to feed themselfs is not a great feeling, whilst one of the strangest requests was a referral from the Trussell Trust the largest and richest Food Bank operator in UK who needed to send hungry clients to us because they ' only open 1 day a week' and we open 7 days a week why it is so important people support local independent food banks, we do the cutting edge work the big charity orgs with all the cash fail to deliver on and we get NO Government or Council funding so depend totally on your support and spare cash donations.. its not cheap running a project this big..
