JOY Explored in Leadership, Activism, Mental Health, and Design
How Fascinating!
We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves.
— Buddha
I’ve been reflecting on the many ways joy is showing up in the world, and it’s truly inspiring. In Deb Roth's blog this week,?The Many Flavors of JOY, she explores how joy is appearing everywhere—from politics to pop culture, activism to art. We’re seeing joy not just as a fleeting emotion but as a sustainable, impactful energy that fuels resilience, connection, and even leadership.
In a time when the world can feel uncertain or overwhelming, it’s no coincidence that the conversation around joy is growing louder. Joy, after all, is the antidote to fear, stress, and negativity. It’s the ultimate pattern disruptor, helping us break free from old habits and empowering us to embrace a more positive way of living.
Consider leaders like Kamala Harris, now celebrated as a “joy warrior,” or how Rebecca Solnit talks about joy as a sustaining force in activism. And let’s not forget the global wave of joy carried by Taylor Swift’s Swifties! These moments aren’t just isolated—they’re part of a greater awakening to the immense power of joy.
Now, more than ever, joy is essential. It’s not only a personal responsibility but also a collective one. Whether in our personal lives, communities, or even workplaces, we are all being called to harness the transformative power of joy. Why now? Because joy is contagious, and when one person taps into it, it spreads like wildfire, making the world a brighter, better place.
So I invite you to?read Deb’s blog, The Many Flavors of JOY?and reflect on how, where, and what joy is showing up in your own life. What unexpected moments of joy have found you lately? How can you bring more of it into the world? Let’s keep building this joyful movement together.
