The joy of bad writing!

The joy of bad writing!

I know - you want your writing to be stunning, life-changing and admired by the world and it's dog, but worrying about how good your writing is can end up with you not writing at all.

When I first started writing stuff that would be seen by others, I spent hours with my fingers hovering over the keys of my typewriter (yep, I'm that old), ripping out pages and re-typing - all to try and make my first effort perfect and worthy.

But you are never going to get into the hallowed state of flow if you keep cursing, sobbing, running to the kitchen for chocolate biscuits and telling yourself that you are crap at this. You just have to write and embrace the joy of 'bad' writing.

Repeat after me. Bad writing comes before good.

Just write. Write without filtering, editing or critiquing yourself. Don't worry about what is coming out - sometimes it takes a while to get going, and the beauty of technology and writing on a laptop or any device means that it is easy to go back to your draft and hone it. In fact you should.

Write anything. Write badly. Write nonsense. Break the curse of the blank page and let it all fall out. You will often find that the bad begins to turn into good, then you are off - your fingers flying across the keys like the talented and accomplished wordsmith you always knew you were.

And if it's still bad - well, that's what drafts are for!

Or you can drop me a message and we'll get it sorted.
