Jovita Kuncevi?ien?, Chief Accountant at Avion Express, on the uniqueness of accounting in the aviation sector and what personal traits help you grow

Share with us your journey here at Avion Express: did aviation choose you or vice versa? How long are you working at Avion Express and how did your positions evolve over time?

It's difficult to say whether aviation chose me or I chose aviation because my entire accounting experience involved travel and the aviation industry. When I first started my career, I worked in the travel industry, so all of my days, daily responsibilities, information, and thoughts centered around travel and flights.

I believe that I fell in love with my work in this field many years ago, and I later purposefully chose new work that was related to a similar field. I later started working in the airport as a result. After a short while, I received an invitation to join Avion Express. Since then, more than 6 years have passed. My career in this company started with accounting positions.

Few years ago I was promoted to Senior Accountant and my manager later suggested the position of Chief Accountant.

How Accounting department changed over the past few years? As a team leader, how was this growth process for you? What were successful and challenging aspects of it?

Our team consisted of just 3 members (including myself) when I was promoted to Chief Accountant. With 18 team members now, my team has experienced significant growth over the last two years. I won't deny that the company's growth was difficult because there was a time after the pandemic when the processes were really challenging, but we didn‘t give up. Later, we encountered many difficulties, unexpected events, new situations, and processes, but I believe that these difficulties we face every day are the engine of me and my team that drives us to non-stop growth.

What aspects of your job do you enjoy the most when working at aviation sector? Are there any unique aspects comparing aviation to other sectors?

Accounting in aviation sector is really different from other sectors. Seasonality, project quantities or types, and other aviation-specificity have a significant influence on daily tasks. Daily work has no routine, requiring certain personality traits such as flexibility. But I am fascinated by the fact that every day is different and sometimes we can‘t predict every possible problem or situation that might arise.

What personality traits and skills help in your career the most?

I think that I am always trying to be professional, persistent, I clearly know my goals and try to achieve the desired result. I’m not afraid to take a risk, try new things, to admit my mistakes. I am determined and I give all of myself to my work.

What do you like most about working at Avion Express?

The most important thing for me is that in this company I can grow as a specialist, as a leader, and as a person. Everyday challenges and improvements motivate me to keep moving, not to give up even in difficult situations, to go beyond my limits, and to think more broadly and more flexibly. Personal development and self-realization at work are very important to me.

Do you have any hobbies or activities that you like to do on your free time? If so, what are they?

All my free time is spent with my family and friends. My every working day is very active and busy, so on my free time I love to relax, travel to nature where I can walk, make some BBQ, look at my friends fishing, or just spend time reading books, listening to the chirping of birds, or the sound of the sea. Sometimes I immerse myself in new activities, self-improvement, learning new things, or just watching films.
