A journey towards a sustainable future on wheels
Our journey into 2024 begins by discussing electric mobility, which enriches our offerings and complements our solutions to support the energy transition.
In 2023, electric mobility experienced a significant shift, spreading rapidly in our daily lives. Everyone, from individuals to small and big businesses, realized the importance and benefits of electrification. Even our cities made progress in electrifying their public fleets.
It is just the beginning of a transformation that requires technological, economic, and mindset changes. However, awareness and intervention should extend to everyone, from public administration to companies and consumers.
The future of personal electric vehicles
We begin by examining the global growth of private electric mobility during 2023, characterized by a significant increase in private electric car sales.
According to the most recent analysis of Bloomberg New Energy Finance, a firm specializing in strategic research in various sectors, sales of electric vehicles worldwide exceeded 14 million in the past year, registering a remarkable 35% increase over 2022 and setting a new record for the entire industry.
China again dominates the market, followed by Europe with significant growth at about 3.3 million vehicles sold. The United States is the third largest market, with over 1 million units sold. These trends align with the International Energy Agency's (IEA) Stated Policies Scenario (STEPS) projections. According to STEPS, China will maintain its dominant position, accounting for 40% of total electric car sales by 2030. Meanwhile, the United States is expected to double its market share to 20% by the decade's end. Lastly, Europe is projected to maintain its current share of 25%.
National policies and incentives will continue to support sales, while the instability in hydrocarbon prices that began in March 2022 could further motivate potential buyers.
The rising demand for electric vehicles has led to a surge in global investment in charging infrastructure. According to estimates, between the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024, a record-breaking 1.4 million new public charging stations will be installed.
Our commitment is to support private electric mobility through an ecosystem of charging infrastructure and cutting-edge hardware and software solutions accessible to everyone and fully customizable. Our solutions allow people to efficiently, safely, and smartly manage electric vehicle charging.
Companies are becoming more aware of mobility solution
E-mobility presents a challenge for companies aiming to reduce their carbon footprint.
The Arval Mobility Observatory is a highly influential think tank in the corporate fleet and mobility industry. Its Mobility and Fleet Barometer 2023 Global Report, for the first time, presented a detailed analysis of 30 countries. The report aims to provide insights into current and future corporate mobility trends worldwide.
The survey shows that 91% of companies are confident about the evolution of their fleet size, with energy transition seen as the main challenge. Among them, 27% predict an increase in their fleet size, while 64% expect it to remain stable. The reasons behind the future rise in fleets also include employees. More and more companies are considering offering vehicles to employees who do not have company cars to retain and attract talent.
Over one-third of surveyed companies consider adding or increasing full-service leasing in their fleet management model. This significant figure affects companies of various types and sizes, including smaller ones.
Although some countries, such as Poland, Australia, and New Zealand, still lag behind the global average, the study finds that 84% of companies are well-informed about in-company mobility solutions. Additionally, 71% of those companies have already implemented at least one employee mobility program.
Our goal with our range of solutions is to provide a comprehensive guide for those who choose us. From our fleet analysis service that helps identify timelines and costs for fleet electrification to a charging solution for business customers, we consider all the critical factors necessary to propose a tailor-made solution.
According to the IEA's Global EV Outlook 2023, the trend towards electrification is not only limited to cars but also extends to light commercial vehicles (LCVs), which sales witnessed a significant increase of 90% worldwide in 2022. Furthermore, 60,000 medium- and heavy-duty truck units were sold in the same year.

This growth in the electrification of heavy-duty trucks is evident in Chile, where a 28-ton 100% electric truck was introduced in the mining sector. This e-Truck was made possible thanks to the joint contribution of our company and SQM, a global mining corporation operating in northern Chile. The e-Truck significantly reduces the emission of approximately 12 tons of?CO??annually, contributing to a cleaner and greener environment.
A green future is possible for cities
To appreciate the importance of the electrification of urban public transport in the energy transition path of cities, let's consider two significant figures:?
Several options exist to reduce this impact. Our e-Bus as-a-service model helps accelerate the electrification of urban mobility for local institutions and public transport companies.
This solution offers collaboration with an exclusive partner who is an expert in mobility, electrification, and energy services. Unlike the normal supply processes used by local institutions and public transport operators, we operate through an integrated approach.
Our model goes beyond total project financing, providing for the fleet electrification project, bus supply and maintenance, charging infrastructure installation, green energy supply, and a software platform for monitoring and optimizing charging sessions.
Many countries are making efforts to ensure sustainable urban mobility. According to the Pipeline of Electric Bus Projects in Latin America report, commissioned by the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group in partnership with the Clean Transport Finance Academy 2023, Latin American countries are at the forefront of implementing e-buses in their public transport system. Brazil, Colombia, Chile, and Mexico have set ambitious targets for electrifying their bus fleets by 2030.
In Brazil, the city of S?o Paulo has begun its journey toward a more sustainable future by adopting our e-Bus as-a-service turnkey solution (discover here the benefits of the agreement) that includes vehicle delivery and installation of the entire charging infrastructure.
Other countries are also implementing this solution. In October 2023, our Spanish division, Endesa X, won the first public tender to provide infrastructure and charging points for the buses owned by Guaguas Municipales, the public transport company in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Public transportation is also becoming greener in Turin, Italy, thanks to an agreement signed with Autoguidovie Group through Cavourese, the municipal transport operator. As a result, part of the bus fleet in the capital city of Piedmont has been electrified. It was the first Italian activation of the "e-Bus as-a-service" solution for us and allowed Cavourese to reduce CO? emissions drastically.
Beyond public transportation
Integrated solutions have various applications beyond public transportation.?
With our assistance, Chile has activated the country's inaugural electric garbage truck and introduced Latin America's first electric ambulances, which Enel Chile donated.?Each ambulance can travel up to 200 km per charge, and operational costs are 70% lower than traditional ones.
When we discuss the opportunities available for a country, we are not just talking about public transportation. These opportunities extend to other services as well. In collaboration with Arriva Italia and XBus Italia, we provided Rome with 20 electric school buses for disabled children in 2022. This initiative helped to reduce CO? emissions in the Eternal City and ensured the inclusion of all students, regardless of their physical abilities. The school buses have state-of-the-art equipment for transporting disabled users, including hydraulic wheelchair lifts, defibrillators, and a telemedicine application for emergency health support during transport.
Electric mobility solutions offer a range of benefits, including financial, social, and environmental advantages. They are also known for their exceptional flexibility. This journey through the evolution of mobility is intended to stimulate our thinking and encourage us to make more conscious choices tailored to the specific needs of all contexts, whether private or public.

10 个月I am a strong advocate for renewable energy, including electric vehicles. However, for real change, it's essential to address basic challenges like providing accessible charging stations for electric car owners. In my new apartment building, there's been a charging station for electric vehicles sitting idle for three years. This situation is frustrating for the residents, who purchased their apartments with the expectation of this amenity, and are now forced to seek alternative charging options around the city.
