In this week's edition of Tilapia Tuesday, we venture into the heart of Kenya, Gikomba, to bring you an insightful interview with David Opar Dago, one of our esteemed clients. David's journey in the tilapia trading business is a testament to resilience, adaptation, and success.
Q: Could you introduce yourself?
A: I am David Opar Dago, a faithful servant of God, serving in the Voice of Salvation and Healing charge in Nairobi's East region.
Q: When did you start your fish trading business?
A: my journey in the fish trading business began in 1990. This was a time when the industry was vastly different from what it is today. Our trade was confined to selling wild Tilapia that were caught from Lake Victoria. The fishing techniques were traditional and the entire process was much more labor-intensive than it is now. The concept of fish farming hadn't gained popularity and most of the fish available in the market came from wild catch. The business had its own set of challenges, but it was a rewarding experience that laid the foundation for my deep understanding of the industry.
Q: How has the fish trading business changed over the years?
A: The fish trading business has seen a drastic transformation over the years. There was a time when overfishing led to a scarcity of fish in the market. People were scrambling for fish, and the supply was just not enough. That's when fish farming technology, particularly fish caging, came into the picture. It revolutionised our industry and ensured a steady supply of fish.
Q: Could you share some details about your association with fish caging?
A: Fish caging was a game-changer. It provided a solution to the problem of overfishing and brought about a significant shift in our business practices. The controlled environment allowed for better fish management and a steadier supply to the market.

This is a minor point though, considering the overall superior experience we have with Geddo. When set against other companies, the difference is clear - Geddo Fish Farm is in a league of its own.
