A Journey Through Organisational Change with Hilary

A Journey Through Organisational Change with Hilary

Hey, I’m Hilary Atayi ; I'm a senior consultant in projects and programmes at Human Engine . I currently have the privilege of supporting an organisation through one of its large-scale transformation programmes. Over the past six months, I've experienced the challenges and triumphs in a whirlwind trying to redefine how people work and think within the organisation.

The Challenge

As the programme manager for one of their largest transformation initiatives, these past few months have been nothing short of…. well …busy. Our work aims to increase efficiency by reshaping workflows, fostering a mindset shift, simplifying processes for busy teams, and establishing new processes for existing teams. Though it is complex and challenging, it’s all of the good stuff, really.?

The Goal

The goal was clear: to revolutionise the way the organisation operates while ensuring minimal disruption to essential services or, should I say, just the right amount of disruption. As they say, "Diamonds are created under pressure."

The Journey

The last six months have been rapid; every day brought new insights, lessons, and undoubtedly, a fair share of high-pressure moments. The nature of this work demands a meticulous approach to compliance and accuracy, and I am lucky to be surrounded by experts in the field who know exactly what they are doing and more. I have worked closely with a brilliant delivery team to oversee the programmes progress and ensure that the transformation aligns with organisational goals and the executive teams’ ambitions. This balancing act demands strategic decision-making, effective communication, and the ability to adapt to unforeseen circumstances (of which there have been a fair few).

High-Value Outcomes

While the journey has been intense, the outcomes have been undeniably high-value. In December, we regrouped and came back stronger in January as a unit. Witnessing individuals start to embrace change in the hopes of one day seeing the tangible impact of the transformation on day-to-day operations made all our work worthwhile. The programme's success will not just be measured in terms of timelines and deliverables but in the lasting positive changes it will instigate within the organisation.

To Wrap Up (Hopefully Warm)

While the challenges have been abundant, so are the opportunities for growth and progress. I have been gifted with a brilliant client who has provided smart, forward-thinking individuals and outstanding senior leadership. The whirlwind may not have offered slow days, not even around Christmas, but the journey has undoubtedly been fulfilling and impactful. When I eventually transition to my next client, I know I will be pleased about the incredible momentum built in this space. The last six months have hopefully set the stage for some remarkable changes, and as a keen plant mum, I'm eager to see the seeds planted bloom into even greater successes. The best is always yet to come!
