Journey Through Life's Challenges: Exploring Work Culture and Divorce

Have you ever had to navigate a significant change, such as switching careers or dealing with a major life event, while also managing your job responsibilities?

Have you ever faced challenges in your work environment that made you question the culture?

In today's professional landscape, where the boundaries between work and personal life blur, promoting a healthy work culture is more important than ever. I had the privilege of speaking with Aleha Ingle, M.S. , who shared her journey and experiences that led her to focus on promoting healthy work cultures, drawing from her own traumatic experiences with workplace bullying and abuse.

Aleha Ingle, M.S. , moved frequently as a child because her parents were in the U.S. Army. However, she initially did not want to join the military herself. She enlisted in the Air Force at 19 and served for 21 years before retiring.

After retiring from the Air Force, Aleha Ingle, M.S. became a business owner focused on promoting healthy work cultures. Some organizations may intentionally create toxic work environments without caring for employee well-being. Aleha wants to help prevent others from going through traumatic workplace experiences.

Both Aleha Ingle, M.S. , and Vanessa Lech share similar experiences of being targets of bullying as intelligent, competent women, which can then lead to "mobbing" or extreme bullying.

Balancing Work and Well-being:

One of the key challenges many professionals face today is balancing work demands with personal well-being. Aleha emphasized the importance of setting boundaries and prioritizing self-care. She shared how she integrates activities like journaling into her daily routine, ensuring a holistic approach to well-being.

Technology has profoundly impacted work culture, both positively and negatively. Aleha highlighted the benefits of technology in enabling remote work and improving communication. However, she also cautioned against the harmful effects, such as the blurring of work hours and the constant connectivity that can lead to burnout. Technology has created the ability and increased the likelihood of cyber abuse in the forms of harassment, stalking, and abuse of power from superiors.

Personal Mantra:

When asked about her personal mantra or motto, Aleha shared a powerful quote that guides her approach to work and life:

"Accountability is uncomfortable."

Divorce and Its Influence:

Aside from her work, Aleha has also experienced the challenges of divorce. She shared how this experience has shaped her outlook on life, emphasizing the importance of resilience, self-reflection, and growth. She believes divorce can change a person's perspective on relationships and work, often leading to a deeper understanding of oneself.

Encouragement:

Aleha encouraged those going through a divorce while managing a career. She emphasized the importance of seeking support from friends, family, or a professional counselor. She also highlighted the need to prioritize self-care and not be afraid to ask for help when needed.

Misconceptions About Divorce:

Aleha would like to address several misconceptions about divorce. One common misconception is that divorce is a sign of failure. She believes divorce can be a positive step towards personal growth and happiness. Additionally, Aleha emphasized that divorce does not define a person's worth or ability to have successful relationships in the future.

Impact on Children:

Regarding the impact of divorce on children, Aleha stressed the importance of open communication and providing a stable and loving environment. She believes children can adapt and thrive after divorce, mainly when supported by caring adults.

Key Lessons Learned:

Reflecting on her experiences, Aleha shared that the most important lesson she's learned from divorce is the value of self-love and acceptance. She believes that embracing oneself fully can navigate life's challenges with grace and resilience.

Final Thoughts:

In conclusion, Aleha offered some final thoughts and advice on creating a healthy work culture and navigating life's challenges. During the filmed podcast interview, the following films were referenced:

"Loudest Voice" (Limited Series) (2019):

This series portrays workplace harassment and abuse through the character of a powerful media mogul, who is depicted as creating a toxic work environment at a news network. The mogul is shown using their position of power to sexually harass individuals, demanding loyalty and silence in exchange for career advancement. The series also explores how the organizational culture at the news network enabled this behavior, with individuals feeling pressured to comply with demands out of fear of retaliation.

"Disclosure" (1994):

In "Disclosure," workplace harassment and abuse are depicted in the context of false accusation and manipulation. The character, played by Michael Douglas, is falsely accused of sexual harassment by a colleague, who uses the accusation as a tool to advance their career and manipulate the company's leadership. The film highlights how individuals can be targeted and victimized within organizations and how power dynamics can be exploited to silence victims and protect abusers.

Both of these films serve as powerful examples of how workplace harassment and abuse can be perpetrated by individuals in positions of power and how organizational cultures can enable and perpetuate such behavior. They shed light on the complexities of navigating these issues in the workplace and the importance of creating a safe and respectful work environment for all.
