A Journey Through Infertility and Stigma (Story of Deepa & Samar)
Social stigmas can be a major obstacle when it comes to infertile couples seeking infertility treatment. Many people feel that infertility is a personal failure, and they may be reluctant to seek help due to fear of judgment or criticism.
This is simply not true, and it's certainly not something any couple should be ashamed of.
Unfortunately, these stigmas can result in couples missing out on the treatments that could help them have a baby. It's important to remember that there is no shame in seeking treatment.
Here's the real story of Deepa & Samar who've had the same thinking about infertility, but eventually found much-needed information and truth about the condition.
Unfold the story here as narrated by Deepa herself -
“Our journey to parenthood wasn't easy just because we weren’t aware of the real facts. Now, I wonder how many infertile couples in India, especially in rural areas, are stuck on those obsolete stigmas, still unaware of the condition and believing in unscientific methods that take them nowhere.
And, perhaps this is the reason why so many people easily give up on their parenthood dream and choose to remain infertile.
Honestly, we were no different. We had the same thoughts about infertility. The time we tried for our second baby, things were not working as we expected.
We both thought this just wasn't our time. We waited for a while and tried again, but got the same result. Someone did suggest we see a doctor but to us, it seemed like seeking ‘unnecessary’ medical attention.

We both were so discouraged from asking for medical information due to ungrounded and unscientific ideas about conception. Also, it was quite an embarrassment in addressing what is considered a very private matter.
It was only after my husband's friend who was in Noida told him about Dr. Sweta Gupta from Crysta IVF.?
At first, we resisted seeking professional help but then decided to at least talk once. So, that's what we did. His friend arranged an appointment and we went.
After consultation, we felt positive as we got to learn about these incredible medical technologies that we never thought existed. After reviewing & testing everything, she explained to us about unexplained infertility and IVF treatment.
But then again, the decision of what treatment to take has yet to be taken by elderly people in our family rather than the actual couple.
Fortunately, they agreed somehow and we went through the first IVF cycle the following month which resulted in a positive pregnancy.
The whole experience was out of this world. For a noob like me, it's like medical magic. I'm grateful we had that consultation with Dr. Sweta who introduced us to IVF.
But then there's also a concern thinking about millions of people who are struggling with the same but missing out on treatment benefits, because of stigma.?
It is now important for us to reach out to other couples going through the same experience, as this can be an invaluable source of emotional and practical support.”
