The Journey of Tapkeen: Part 5 - Creating the Identity

Inspiration Behind the Tapkeen Logo

The inspiration for the Tapkeen logo came from the iconic '90s video game - Commander Keen. The logo incorporates a planetary symbol, reflecting a universe of possibilities, trust, and support. This choice was about capturing the spirit of adventure and exploration, qualities that Tapkeen aimed to embody.

Transforming The Visual Identity

The most exciting part of this journey was the design process itself - bringing a vision to life.

Everything began from the sketches that Jochen made. We sat down and laid the foundation for the identity and the initial ideas and color preferences. The selected base colors symbolized individuality, uniqueness, and the interconnectedness within the Tapkeen community. We wanted to create a logo that was memorable, versatile and blending with the app's design. The real challenge was to transform the sketches and ideas into a reality that resonated with Tapkeen's mission.

The design process was iterative, involving constant refining, variations, and seeking feedback to ensure the logo was not just visually appealing but also fit for the app’s purpose.

I used Adobe Illustrator to turn the initial sketches into a refined logo. The focus was on the logo mark, with careful attention paid to font selection.

Early challenges included designing the logo's appeal across different platforms and mastering complex color combinations. Despite some hiccups, a problem-solving approach led to a successful design that fulfilled expectations and aligned with Tapkeen’s identity.

Witnessing the transformation of concepts into a tangible, visually striking logo was immensely rewarding. It was a creative adventure that not only defined Tapkeen's visual identity but also inspired my future design endeavors.

Watching our ideas and sketches transform into Tapkeen's identity was an incredible experience. The collaboration with Melania was essential in bringing our vision to life. The process taught us the importance of each element in design, from color selection to logo symbolism. It's amazing how these visual aspects convey the core values and mission of Tapkeen.
