Today, let's talk about an idea from a famous psychologist named Abraham Maslow. He was a big deal in the 20th century and really changed how people think about what humans need.
Maslow is best known for his "Hierarchy of Needs," a pyramid that shows what people need in life. At the bottom are basic things like food and safety.
As you go up the pyramid, the needs get more complex, like wanting to feel loved or proud of yourself. At the very top is what he called "self-actualization," which means reaching your full potential.
You can read more about this here
Maslow said that only 2% of people get to this top level. That's a really small number, but I see it as a challenge for all of us to aim for.
The Big Question: Why Do So Few People Reach the Top?
There could be many reasons for this. Life's responsibilities, such as jobs and family, can take up a lot of time and energy, making it hard to focus on personal growth. Some people might not even be aware of the idea of self-actualization, or they may think it's out of reach for them.
Lastly, reaching the top of the pyramid requires effort, time, and sometimes, courage to face your fears and challenges. It's not an easy path, but knowing the hurdles can help us be better prepared to overcome them.
How to Be Your Best Self: Simple Tips
The first step is to really know yourself. Spend some quiet time reflecting on your likes and dislikes, your strengths and weaknesses. Maybe even take a personality test. The more you understand about yourself, the clearer your path to self-actualization becomes.
Once you have self-awareness, the next step is goal-setting. Write down what you want to achieve and break it into smaller, manageable tasks. Use a planner or app to keep track of your progress, adjusting your plan as needed.
Life is always changing, so being open to learning is key. Whether it’s reading a new book, taking an online course, or even learning from the experiences and stories of others, continuous learning is a step toward reaching your full potential.
