"A Journey of Resilience and Community Support: R's Experience with Reception House"

In December 2023, R and her family were warmly welcomed by Reception House, marking the beginning of their journey to settle in Canada. During their initial stay at a hotel, Reception House provided vital comfort and support, fostering a sense of security as they adjusted to their new surroundings.
R's experience with Reception House went beyond mere accommodation. Engaging in English Outreach (EO) and integration skills classes proved pivotal in her adaptation to Canadian culture and social norms. Through these programs, R not only honed her language skills but also forged meaningful connections within her community, enhancing her sense of belonging.
Guided by Reception House's housing team, R and her family transitioned to a rented house in Waterloo Region. Armed with practical knowledge of grocery shopping and transportation, they embraced independence and self-reliance in their new environment. Moreover, their participation in various youth programs enriched their experiences and integration into Canadian society.
Stability in their living arrangements empowered R to pursue her academic aspirations. Through Reception House's collaboration with YMCA, R was accepted into Laurier University's Political Science program in January 2024, a testament to her resilience and determination in achieving her goals.
