A journey to reflect...
V G Venkatesh, CSCP
Vice-Dean & Professor - Supply Chain Management at EM Normandie Business School, France.
Lately, I've hesitated to share updates on platforms like Facebook and LinkedIn, but today, I feel compelled to reflect and share my journey. This might just be the longest post I've ever written, and I hope it inspires someone grappling with fear about shifting their study or career path.
I'm excited to share that I've been invited to deliver a session at a prestigious biology conference hosted by a leading Indian university, where I’ll be sharing the stage with some of my own batchmates. These remarkable individuals are now top scientists and professionals with backgrounds from renowned institutions like Harvard University, Oxford University, the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) in the UK, and Saint Gobain Research in France. The topics range from complex neurosciences to intellectual property rights.
It’s a unique experience for me, as I find myself the odd one out at this conference.
Biology has always been my first passion, particularly in the realm of plant genome mapping. In the late 90s, I was poised to begin my Ph.D. at a leading German university, but life intervened and guided me on a different path—one that ultimately led me into supply chain and logistics. Today, I serve as an academic with a leading French management school, backed by extensive corporate experience and a Ph.D. in management from a respected institution.
Looking back on the past twenty-seven years, I reflect on the adventurous journey of courageously pivoting my career. I sometimes feel nostalgic about the hard work that paved my path. Those who have known me over the years are familiar with the struggles I faced; many made light of my decisions, and even now, some childhood friends are surprised by my significant career shift.
It wasn’t an easy journey, but as I reflect today, I find myself without regrets. I’ve always believed in the power of hard work and perseverance. My unwavering focus has been to excel in whatever I undertake.
This journey has undeniably been guided by "Divine Will," for which I express my sincere gratitude. Each day, I bow to that external energy and to everyone who has supported and believed in me.
With my goal of giving my best, I approach each day with fresh enthusiasm, aiming to contribute to the betterment of young people.

Here are a few reflections I’d like to share:
1. Take the First Step: Unless we take a step forward, we may never know what life has in store for us. Stop blaming yourself for temporary setbacks; remember that we are here for a greater purpose.
2. Embrace Guidance: When we cultivate positive thoughts in our subconscious, we create pathways that lead us toward success while meeting extraordinary people along the way.
3. Embrace Life's Surprises: Life is full of surprises, both past and future.
4. Seek Purpose: Life is meant for living and realizing our purpose.
5. Have Faith: Maintain strong faith in the “external energy” that guides us toward our purpose.
6. Trust in Hard Work: Hard work never goes unnoticed; it will always return to you in some form.
I hope my journey resonates with you. Let’s embrace the unknown and trust in our ability to forge our paths!
