The Journey of a Podcast

The Journey of a Podcast

Some of you may know that over the last few years I’ve been the host of the Coaching Uncaged Podcast, and have absolutely loved all the conversations we had. Now that I have moved on from Animas, I am keen to set up my own podcast…..however, I hadn’t anticipated the challenges that I might face along the way.?

To start with I did the classic thing of making everything more complicated than it needed to be! So, instead of finding a quick and easy way to get the podcast up and running, I got all technical and caught up thinking about hosting sites, distribution, and the like.?

Now, if I was working with a coaching client, I might be asking something like - what’s the first step you can take to get you there? Or perhaps - how might you begin and develop as you move long??

How clearer things can become when we take the time to explore an external perspective!

Perhaps this overcomplication I created was the result of being faced with the unknown...so when the moment of clarity hit me I thought ….erm why not just host it on YouTube…..yeah I know, why didn’t I think of that in the first place!

So now I have the platform but what will the show be about, I hear you cry! Well, I was also curious about this too...

I had felt so sure about hosting my own show, so clear about what I wanted to do, but in the moment of taking action, a cloud of doubt and confusion came over me as I tried to put every idea and aspect of my work into the show. Piling in idea after idea until I was left with some generic podcast that brought me no joy and wondering who would want to listen to that!

Then came a day of conversations, with my coach, my friends, collaborators, with whom I’m developing a Leadership Development Program with and finally Andy Cahill. I had been a guest on Andy’s podcast; The Wonder Dome and as a thank you, he offered me a coaching session.?

During the session, we spoke about my new freelance adventures, the collaboration conversations I’ve been having (more on that later) and then I spoke about the podcast, and here the journey of discovery began.?

As I shared what the show might be about - leadership, coaching, self-development, etc,? Andy gently reflected my words and more so my emotions and hesitations back to me, questioning how I felt about what I was saying. We tapped into what was important to me about the conversations, taking time to ponder and not just jump to answers. And in that silence came the thought of what I really wanted to talk about:

Fanning the flames of the human spirit.?

Suddenly thoughts were tumbling out, almost too quick to capture, of how we all have flames inside of us, our spirit, desires, and dreams. And how coaches, those involved in personal development, mindfulness, and healing, how they all work to support, encourage and feed the flame, that spirit or desire in the work they do, and in their own ways.?

Now I’m feeling this will be an unbelievably exciting conversation to host and share!??

How did you come to work in this way? What is the impact of your work? Who benefits from it? And ultimately how do you personally fan the flames of the human spirit?

Even as I share this I feel that buzz of excitement as I think about whom I might interview, what they might share, and most importantly what the viewers & listeners might take away from these conversations that fan their own flame...

So, over the next few days I will be setting up on YouTube, dusting off my microphone, and putting the call out to all those who would like to join me on this journey and in these conversations on my new podcast:

Fan the Flames

You might have noticed by now I am super excited to get started, and looking forward to sharing more with you as it develops.? If you feel drawn to join me as a guest, then simply message me or drop me an email:

Until next time, go well, burn brightly and live with joy.?

This sounds like it will be a great podcast Robert. I look forward to listening (and watching it) on YouTube. I can totally relate to making things more complicated than they need to be and getting all technical about it. I'm glad you found a simple, suitable solution. Best of luck from a fellow Youtuber ??
