The journey of a mistake

Mistakes,

Do you remember that classmate you had that he/she was asking like a thousand questions every class? Yes, I was that kid. I think my history teacher is still traumatized! “Not you again Mrs Themistokleous” that was engraved in my memory haha bless him. When I was 5 years old my granddad passed away and that was the day that everything started. My head was full of “why, when, how”. I was trying to understand life, death and time. I won’t analyze that because I will need to write another book about it!?

My mom was giving unsatisfied answers, but I don’t blame her sometimes they didn’t even know what to answer. I was a special kid let’s put it this way. But I was like “If I don’t know something how I will get to learn if I don’t ask questions?”

When we are in a workplace, our biggest worry is what other people will think about us when we make a mistake. Some of us might feel embarrassed, some might feel stupid, some might feel like a failure and some others might think that nothing happened and put their head in the sand like the story of flamingo.?

"Making mistakes either in life or at your work. Life is a trial and error and we should learn from our mistakes. Edison said, “I have not failed, I have just found 10000 ways that won't work”. There are a few significant factors that you must always remember: I will share with you four of them:

1.???You are allowed to make mistakes because everyone makes mistakes and how would you learn if you don’t make a mistake?

2.???Accept the fact that you don’t know everything (self-awareness) and ask how you can earn about it. Be a lifelong learner!?

3.???Don’t assume that people will not understand or will make fun of you. This is how you see yourself most probably. Change your perspective. See people in a positive way and their reaction will be positive.?

4. Write down your mistakes. Learn from your mistakes. I have a journal with my mistakes and what I shouldn't do again.

A friend was asking me why you are studying physics at the age of 45. My answer was “I want to understand better how the world is functioning and read again Einstein now that I have more life experience” not everything we learn has to do with money and our work. Learning is not just studying to get a degree. Learning is about educating yourself about whatever interests you and enjoy every second because that’s how you will keep your mind sharp. They say that learning might help to dementia too.?

How would you feel if you don’t know something at work and you keep doing it wrong? The “damage” it would be bigger in the end, right? If you asked your line manager then s/he would have told you. A. You would have saved so much time and B. you would have saved so much anxiety and fear to get caught.?

Asking questions is the best way to learn even if you have asked that question again before. Repetition is the mother of all skills. Cut yourself with some slack. Not all days are the same. If your kid is sick at home and you are at work, then your concentration level won’t be the same so don’t be harsh on yourself. As I have said other times you can talk to people. Tell them “Mary today I am not very well so please can I come back to you with questions after the training finishes?”?

Never allow to anyone make you feel less than who you are whoever that person might be. I remember I was in a group of politicians a few years ago in New York and I disagreed with one of them and everyone was looking me shocked, how could I dare to question them. I didn’t give a damn, you know why? Because I simply didn’t agree with him.??Many years ago, I wouldn’t ask as I would feel weird about my accent being a foreigner, or intimidated by their status, but I am proud of being me. You should be proud of yourself, your questions and your personality. Don’t give anyone the power to manipulate you.?

There are no silly questions.?
