A journey of Life: A year from that Second opportunity

A journey of Life: A year from that Second opportunity

Today December 23rd is for me a day to Celebrate life. Just one day before Christmas, I am celebrating one year after having a Stem Cell Transplant to cure Acute Leukemia I was diagnosed on July 2021. Today marks a day to be thankful!

A transplant is a word that scares many people, one of the most complex things to do in health Science means to do work in your body part of another person's Body. I am lucky as a Stem Cell transplant is a less invasive transplant you can have from a Donor perspective as the Donor just Donate some of their Stem Cells and they will be able to recover them fully and donate more than one time if needed.

On the other hand, a transplant has a completely different meaning for people who suffer from Cancer such as Leukemia or other related conditions. A transplant is a reason for hope and life for those people. Patients are all keen to have a transplant that could potentially represent an opportunity to keep living and improve their health. I was so lucky as my sister was compatible and ready to be my donor (an act of faith, gratitude and kindness that overpass anything you can imagine) - my sister is truly an Angel.?

Today, December 23rd a day before Christmas (one of my favourite seasons of the year) gives me the opportunity once again to be super thankful for the opportunity I was given. The last 17 months were for me months of learning and growth. While it was a hard time full of fears, anxiety, etc. It was an opportunity to learn about life's most important essentials. The importance of trying to be your best self daily?is to be grateful for the people around you and the people who take care of you in different situations. Today the only thing I want to say to all the people in my network is Thank you!

Also, I wanted to share this message as an opportunity be give thanks to those heroes without a cape that were important during all that time, the nurses, doctors, and all the personnel at the hospital as well as my family, co-workers, and friends that were there to support me around all that time.

Finally, just want to transmit a message for us to reflect on as a society, in those difficult times we live in the current world, let’s be a reason to bright from our small corners, a reason to bring hope to the people around us, let’s try to simply be the best version of ourselves and that includes support and be there to the people next to us. Even a simple smile at our neighbour can make such a significant impact on a tough day.

Happy Holidays to Everyone!
