The Journey here...
On the 4th of January 2019 I started my work journey at The Directorate of Science, Technology and Innovation - DSTI.
However, that was after I had the singular honour of having a one-on-one meeting with Hon. Minister Dr. Moinina David Sengeh on the 2nd of January 2019 after several virtual interviews.
Upon arrival I had to wait for him and as I did that, I wondered what our first encounter would be like. I didn’t know for certain, whether I was nervous or excited but one thing I knew for sure was that, I was ready! I was ready for whatever the outcome of our conversation would be. Whether it was to make me more inspired and continue what I was doing at the time or whatever nature had planned, I knew the universe had something for me and I was prepared for the ride.
It turned out the universe had coined out the unknown and perfectly scripted a role for me I couldn’t say no to even if I wanted to. I was going to be the executive assistant to the first ever chief innovation officer to Sierra Leone. The sensitivity of my job immediately scared me and the consciousness to working in governance pushed me away even further. I couldn’t think of the two together. It weighed heavier on me each day and worse off, the people I loved the most didn’t want any of it either.
Reason been, I had just started another chapter of my life, one that was full of endless possibilities and at the time greater opportunities. But as I gave myself many reasons to refuse the offer, I saw a million more to saying yes to it and to give myself the opportunity to serve.
Today, while I reflect on my two years of service I am humbled by how far I have come and the experiences I have gained.
As they say, good work comes with more work. I am fortunate to work for someone who is intentional about my growth and progress. One who protects me and stands with me. One whose values and mine align. I wouldn’t have asked for a better boss, grateful for what we have both learned through this journey and super jazzed about what is ahead of us.
Today I double as an EA for DSTI and head of delivery team within the ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education. Yes...it is a lot of work but it can be done!
It is mind blowing to think how much of me has excelled during these past years and I am grateful to God, family and a great support system for it all.
Now, as I become more, I am reminded of what can be done. I am determined more than ever and if you thought I was ambitious, I am really only getting started.
To endless possibilities and how I got here...I will eternally stay here - HOME!
