The journey of healing acne

Acne has no official cure and even though in many cases it goes away naturally with age, finding the best treatment to manage it is very important. At Deep Skin AI we want to share our experiences in dealing with this common skin condition, hoping that it will provide you with new knowledge and perspectives.?

After a lot of research during the last year, I came across a new (to me) name in the anti-acne active ingredients world: Azelaic Acid, and it quickly became one of my favorites. Apart from Azelaic Acid, Retinol works very well for me, and whenever I use any of them my skin texture and breakouts really improve. I have a basic routine with not many steps so that I can maintain it in the long run. However, the one step I’ll never skip is cleaning my face after a long day (especially if I was wearing make-up!)

For our founder Kai Froehner, it was “getting down from a 7-step elaborate routine that destroyed my skin barrier to a simpler routine with less aggressive and less active products. It’s important to me that they all have no perfumes and are hypoallergenic”. His current skincare routine includes washing his face with an ultra-sensitive cleanser for babies, moisturizer, and sensitive sunscreen SPF 50. He only includes active ingredients twice a week. Taking care of your skin barrier is actually one of the most important things to do in the journey of healing acne, especially since so many of the products to treat this condition can be harsh on the skin.?

One trend that we’re also seeing is the use of natural ingredients which are becoming more and more popular in the skincare industry. My favorite is Aloe Vera with its incredible hydrating benefits. This one is also a favorite for our front-end developer Greeshma Balakrishnan: “When it comes to skincare products, I prefer ones that contain Salicylic Acid, Turmeric, and Aloe vera.” One thing to take into consideration with natural products is making sure that the brand is also following all hygiene guidelines. Also, please be careful with the DIY trends on the internet and always confirm the information with the one provided by a professional.

Ludovica Lerma, our IT specialist, shared with us her long love story with La Roche-Posay products. And she also mentions something quite important, knowing the cause of your acne: “I need to point out that my acne problem is mainly hormonal and located on my back, so the skincare products I use, are more related to the comfort/hydrating properties than to reducing acne.”

In summary, having a persistent skincare routine that you can easily follow, carefully inserting active ingredients in it, taking care not to damage the skin barrier, and trying to find out the specific causes of your acne; can lead to improvements in your skin’s condition.

With tools like the one we’re developing at Deep Skin AI, you will be able to easily and securely choose the best products for your skincare routine.?
