The Journey to Expertise : From Success to Significance

The Journey to Expertise : From Success to Significance

Yesterday, I went to the last meeting of an interesting 8-week leadership round-table called "Beyond Success", facilitated by the one and only (Uncle D as we often call him) Dayo O. During the session we discussed about the difference between success and significance. Success is about personal goals, but significance is about helping others. This idea really made an impact on all of us.

Moving from just caring about our own success to caring about others is what real expertise is all about. It's not just about what we achieve for ourselves; it's about making a positive difference in other people's lives. This change shows that the true measure of success is how much we help others succeed, creating a legacy based on everyone doing well.

As I reflected on this discussions, I thought about my friend, Dr. Mike Oladipo , who runs the Mike Oladipo Global Influence (MOGi). Mike is an expert in leadership and business strategy. I first met him in 2015 at the Young African Leadership Initiative. Since then, he's helped over 2,000,000 leaders worldwide through training, books, articles, radio, and TV.

"Beyond Success" is part of John Maxwell's Equip program for Leaders Globally, connecting it with a well-known platform for leadership development Additionally, Mike is an accredited coach and facilitator for the Maxwell Leadership Institute.

At the end of our meeting, we were asked a big question: How can we help people around us this week? This challenge tells us to not just think about it but to actually use what we know to make things better for others. So, I'm asking you the same question: How can you use what you know to help someone this week? Really think about it.

The journey from success to significance is a cycle of growth, making a difference, and leaving a positive mark. It calls on us to see success as a shared journey toward making a difference, where our skill is measured by how much we lift up those around us. As we start the new week, let's all be part of this idea. Let's share in the comments one thing each of us will do to help someone close to us. Can we agree to do that together?

Dr. Mike Oladipo is the CEO of Heroes Nation Consulting. He earned a Doctorate Degree of Divinity and Philosophy from IBA in New York, United States. He also received an Honorary Doctorate of Leadership and Organizational Management from the Institute of Leadership Management and Manpower Development. Additionally, he holds an MBA in Leadership and Management.

Mike is also an author with over 60 books! His books cover topics like leadership, business, making a difference, relationships, spirituality, nation building, and mastering life. One of his most popular books, 'The Journey,' has been read by more than 2 million people in over 78 countries. It's so well-loved that it has been translated into French, Spanish, and Arabic.

He's a mentor for several organizations, including The Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF), Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI), FATE School, FATE Foundation, and the Academy for Women Entrepreneur (AWE). Dr. Oladipo is also the founder and provost of MOGi Global Leadership School, which is a top leadership school for up-and-coming leaders in Africa.- MOGi Global Leadership School www.mogigls.org

Beyond success was indeed impactful. In answering your question I be deliberate about valuing people by giving credit and recognition to those around me this week.
