And The Journey Begins!!

And The Journey Begins!!

In the midst of all the challenging news around restaurants like the great resignation, ingredient prices, supply chain, Covid dining room lock-downs, 3rd party delivery fees and so much more, it is really cool to see that our industry still "Does What It Does Best"… bring new talent to the table.?I think we give more opportunity towards advancement than any other industry... bar none!

With that in mind, I want to introduce Devyn Hughes.

I first remember Devyn taking care of me as a server, then maybe a year later shifting over to bartender.?Always smiling and attentive. I noticed from day one … she had the eyes.?You know – bright, focused and completely engaged no matter what she was doing or who she was talking to.?She had the “It Factor”.

Then during a more recent visit I noticed she was being taught things about equipment like working on the Margarita Machine.?Something I paid close attention to myself.? :)

So, I asked her what is going on??She immediately starting beaming with a big smile on her face telling me she has started their training program for management.?

And thus, The Journey Into Leadership Begins.

So many of us have taken this path as a way to gain street level experience going into management versus depending on what can be learned in a book.?What makes Devyn that much more special is she is coupling her work with attending North Texas for a Business Management degree.?She said it will be helpful to learn from both sides.?I absolutely applaud her. She will go far.

So often people outside the restaurant industry will take jabs at it, when in fact, I will pit a restaurant operator up against just about anyone else when it comes to molding first job employees, training a team, production timelines, calming agitated customers and expediting a product that has a shelf life of minutes versus weeks and months.?

Hats off to the Devyn’s of the world.?Please make her feel welcome!
