The Journey Back to Self: From Overgiving to Expansion

The Journey Back to Self: From Overgiving to Expansion

The Power of Witnessing Each Other’s Stories

There is something profoundly healing about?being witnessed—about having someone truly see you, hold space for your journey, and reflect back the truth of who you are becoming.

And there is something equally powerful about?witnessing others—seeing parts of yourself in their stories, recognizing that you are not alone, and realizing that healing, expansion, and self-love are not solitary paths.

So today, I want to share?the real journey—the lived experience—of how we move from overgiving to expansion.Maybe you’ll see yourself in one of these phases. Maybe you’ve already walked through them. Maybe you’re standing at the edge of something new.

Where are you right now?

The 4 Phases of Expansion: From Overgiving to Fully Stepping In

1?? The Overgiver (The Caregiver Phase – Pouring Everything Into Others)

You didn’t mean to lose yourself—it just happened.

You’ve spent years tending to others, managing crises, holding things together, and?making sure everyone else is okay.

At first, it felt good. Purposeful. But over time…

???Your needs fell to the bottom of the list. ???You started waking up tired—before the day even began. ???Your life became about keeping others afloat. ???If you stopped, everything would fall apart… or so it felt.

Until?something changed.

Maybe it was?burnout.?Maybe a?relationship ended.?Maybe a?job you gave everything to was suddenly gone.

Or maybe you just?woke up one day and realized you couldn’t keep doing this.

??And this is where the shift begins.

2?? The Rebuilder (The Phase of Healing & Finding Solid Ground Again)

Loss forces us to face ourselves. And in this phase,?you’re standing in the wreckage of what used to be, unsure what comes next.

Maybe you lost a job, a marriage, a friendship, a belief about yourself—something you built your identity around is no longer there.

???You’re looking at the past more than the future. ???You’re replaying everything, trying to understand. ???You feel unmoored, floating between the old and the unknown. ???People around you say, “Just move on,” but it’s not that simple.

This is where?healing begins—but also where fear shows up.

Because moving forward means?releasing what’s gone.

And that’s terrifying.

But slowly, you start to rebuild. You try new things,?some work, some don’t.?You start?doing the deep work—facing the shadows, questioning old stories.?You realize you need?support, guidance, a new way forward.

??And one day, something shifts. You stop looking back as much as you look forward.

3?? The Seeker (The Phase of Growth, Exploration & Awakening)

You’re no longer stuck in the past. You’ve started to heal. But now?

You?feel the call?for something bigger.

???You’re reading new books, listening to podcasts, taking classes. ???You’re exploring meditation, psychedelics, spiritual practices. ???You sense something more is out there—but you’re still hesitant. ???You start things, but you don’t always follow through.

You?want?to step fully into the next version of yourself, but…

???Fear. Doubt. “What if I get it wrong?” ???Waiting for a sign, permission, certainty. ???Trying to figure out the “perfect” next step before taking it.

The seeker is full of curiosity—but also?hesitation.?You’re trying, but not fully committing.?You still have one foot in the old world.

??And then… one day, you make the leap.

4?? The Finder (The Phase of Stepping In & Owning Your Power)

This is the moment where?everything changes.

You?stop seeking and start living.

???You say yes to yourself—fully, completely, no more waiting. ???You trust your intuition instead of overanalyzing. ???You create instead of waiting for permission. ???You no longer feel like an outsider looking in—you are IN it.

You?remember when?you used to hesitate. You?remember when?you thought you weren’t ready. You?remember when?you felt lost… and now you are fully here.

??And this is where self-love, self-care, and expansion become a way of life.

Where Are You in This Journey?

We are all on a path of?self-love, self-care, and personal expansion—but we walk it in different phases.

???Which phase do you resonate with most right now? ???What has your experience been in moving through these shifts?

I’d love to hear your story—drop a comment and let’s explore together.

You are seen. You are witnessed. You are not alone.

The Seeker never really leaves me. It's ingrained in me. These days, I'm also alternating Rebuilder & Finder. Thanks again for this share ????? Cory Thorell, very enlightening ! ??

I looove this way to describe things so much, ????? Cory Thorell! ?? I know every single of these phases very well. Intimately, I'd say. I've shifted from one to another often, sometimes exploring 2 phases at once
