My mother is the person in the photo. She was a midwife who initially attended births in people's homes before moving to the hospital setting. One of her first significant decisions was to buy a motorcycle, making her the first woman in her city to ride one. This bold choice showcased her determination both in her personal life and her profession.

The first decisions we make often set the stage for what comes next. With recent leadership changes—like Trump returning as U.S. president and a new president at Telefónica in Spain—I’ve been reflecting on how crucial those early days are.

Do you think having a solid strategic plan or staying flexible and adapting to surprises is better? How important are those early decisions in establishing a leader’s credibility?

When Ismail Amla announced the Kyndryl Institute, I reflected on the importance of listening in leadership. Data and rapid change can be overwhelming today, but seeking diverse perspectives is crucial. The Institute offers leaders independent research and fresh ideas, reminding us that effective decision-making is about being open and adaptable.

Let me share a little example that connects the ideas from the first article of #TheKyndrylInstitute that I have been reflecting on. This morning, while enjoying my coffee and making a quick payment on my phone, I started thinking about the busy digital world we navigate every day. It’s fascinating how a web of data links global economies and services, but what keeps everything running smoothly? I realized that trade policies play a key role in this. Though they often fly under the radar, these policies act as quiet guardians of our privacy, innovation, and the easy exchange of information across borders. That said, this balance is quite delicate. If we don't revise these agreements to tackle the challenges of today’s digital landscape, we might disrupt the very systems we rely on.

Looking at the second article on AI and national security in the U.S., I see some clear connections to Europe, too. The urgency to secure our digital infrastructure is just as important here. European businesses are at a pivotal moment, trying to find the right balance between technological growth and strategic planning. Embracing AI isn't just about being on the cutting edge anymore; it’s crucial for protecting our systems and staying competitive in this fast-paced world. The bottom line is clear: prioritizing #AI security from the start isn’t just important; it’s essential for keeping us competitive and encouraging #innovation in our digital-first era.

The Institute has opened my eyes to new perspectives, and I have also found inspiration in the technical communities I’m part of, ranging from engineering to hyperscalers. One community that stands out is the #IBMChampion Community, which I've been lucky to be a part of since 2021. I’ve connected with incredible champions from all around the globe.

While I’m patiently awaiting news about my membership status for 2025, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve received my star for 2024 – and it’s proudly displayed.
