On Friday night, an intense earthquake hit Morocco, leaving us frightened and vulnerable. The Moroccan interior ministry reported that the quake had caused more than 2,000 fatalities and over 2,000 injuries. Just the day before, I visited my friends from the GRAF firefighter team in Sant Cugat, who are responsible for forest fire management in Catalonia. They are the ones who have designed the strategy to combat wildfires in the area and put their lives on the line for us.
In times of natural disasters, we are reminded of the simple things in life that matter most, such as the safety and security of our loved ones. I want to express my gratitude and admiration for all the security forces and first responders who work tirelessly to protect and assist us during difficult times.
It's essential to recognize that no one is immune to the dangers of natural disasters. According to the United Nations, we face more than one disaster per day unless we take action to reduce the risks.

A major bank's CEO once shared with me a childhood memory he had about firefighters. When he was young, his family moved to a new house, and his mother took him to visit the local firefighters in their neighborhood. They kindly invited them to have some cake, and his mother emphasized the importance of safety and the services that firefighters provide to citizens.

Community
On Sunday, a Spanish military search and rescue unit consisting of 56 officers and four sniffer dogs arrived in Morocco. A second team of 30 people and four dogs was also dispatched. Other countries, such as the USA and UK, and private companies have also pledged their support. The US sent a team of disaster experts, Britain sent rescue specialists, and private companies provided free communications to Morocco. Everyone has expressed their solidarity with Morocco following the devastating earthquake that struck the country.
