Uniting Ukraine's Media Professionals: Empowering Journalists and Media Workers Nationwide
Two years have passed since the massive incursion began, and ten years have passed since Russia launched a hybrid conflict with Ukraine. On this occasion, many different events were organized in Ukraine. As a result, journalists had a lot of work to do. The month turned out to be full, but we continue to talk about Ukrainian media people who cover life in Ukraine. Journalists are important!
Throughout 2023, the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU) worked under martial law imposed after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by russian troops. The Union performed its statutory duties by focusing on the priority tasks in a particular period.
The experience of overcoming challenges for the safety of journalists and sustainability of the media gained during the two years of the full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war was discussed during an international expert discussion held on February 15 at the initiative of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU) and the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine under the patronage of the National Commission of Ukraine for UNESCO.
The Network of NUJU’s Journalists’ Solidarity Centers, created in April 2022 at the initiative of the NUJU, with the support of the International and European Federations of Journalists, as well as UNESCO, is destined to help media representatives working in Ukraine during the war and journalists and editors who find themselves in trouble. The purpose of the Centers is to provide effective support to journalists, freelancers, bloggers, and associated media personnel working in the difficult conditions of the current war.

For the first time, these key recommendations were presented during the international expert discussion “Two hard years of the war: overcoming challenges for journalists` safety and media resilience”, which was held on February 15, 2024 at the initiative of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU) and the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine under the patronage of the National Commission of Ukraine for UNESCO.
Sergiy Tomilenko, reminds international partners of the urgent need to continue supporting Ukraine and Ukrainian journalists in the ongoing war despite the fact that it is disappearing from the headlines of the world media.
