Journalists Federation of India (JFI) & Journalist Association of India condemns the killing of a local journalist in Madhya Pradesh, on 31st May 2017. The JFI demands immediate investigation and arrest of the criminals / accused.


The Journalists Federation of India expresses its condolence to the Jain family and stands in solidarity with the local journalist community of MP.


The Journalists Federation of India & Journalist Association of India Secretary General, H K Sethi, said: “We condemns the cold blooded murder of Kamlesh Jain in Madhya Pradesh. The two murders of journalists in two weeks in same state illustrates the dangerous conditions that journalists in MP are facing. We call on the Madhya Pradesh and Indian authorities to immediately and thoroughly investigate this cold blooded murder and bring those responsible to justice.”


Kamlesh Jain, 42, was shot dead by two assailants at his office in Pipliya Mandi, 17km approximately from Mandsaur. He was shot twice from close range and died on the way to City hospital. Jain was working on stories for Indore-based Hindi daily Nai Dunia, with which he was associated for the last more than 12 years.


Jain’s family said that local illegal liquor sellers had threatened to kill him after he reported their activities to the police a few days back. According to a report the family claimed that Jain had informed the police about the threat.


The JFI is working with its MP Govt. By writing and closely watching the progress to establish the motive of the crime / murder even as the police investigation is underway. Jain is the second journalist to be murdered in India in 2017 and the killing came merely two weeks after the cold blooded murder of journalist Shyam Sharma, that too in Madhya Pradesh.
