New from the Canada Press Freedom Project:
Journalist Samira Mohyeddin has been targeted with chilling statements from an Israeli government ministry and an Ontario MPP.
On Oct. 14, an Israeli government ministry included Mohyeddin on a list of “Antisemitic Generators and Influencers in Canada”.
In September, independent Ontario MPP Goldie Ghamari responded to a critical comment from Mohyeddin by posting the name of a restaurant owned by the journalist’s family. Weeks later, the restaurant’s front windows were smashed.
Mohyeddin had avoided posting the name of the restaurant online to avoid harassment. (She noted that she “cannot in any way prove that Goldie Ghamari is responsible” for inciting the Oct. 8 vandalism.)
