Journalist Andrew Cave To Host Inaugural Memery Crystal #ThinkSeries

Who'd have thunk it? Donald Trump as POTUS. Offshore (renewable) wind power costing less than Nuclear. A huge move to electric cars from 2020. A mobile phone costing over $1000. ASOS being worth nearly as much as M&S. And of course...

Brexit

Ah, the elephant in the room. Are we in? Are we out? Are we soft in, hard out? Will we shake it all about? Will we get what we had before, without giving anything up? And, what will happen to our country's economic growth...?

"It's the Economy, Stupid" was the famous sound-bite from Bill Clinton, back in the day. But, what will Brexit actually mean for our economic prospects. They're, of course, driven by growth. Growth in sales. Growth in productivity. Growth in exports.

But, according to leaked documents, it seems that we will be looking to our own (native) labour pool to help our companies grow. Yet, in the past, huge numbers of foreign born workers have powered it. From the highly skilled fintech sector, to the skilled, in a different way, people to work at the tens of thousands of coffee shops, especially in London. The ratio of foreign born Baristas at Starbucks, versus British ones must be 20.1 at least.

The Memery Crystal #ThinkSeries

I've been Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Memery Crystal, a London law firm for a couple of years now. They have seen strong growth in their sector, and are renowned as a law firm that THINKS. Think about it before you do it, don't say "I wish I'd thought about it" when you've done it. Proactive, not reactive.

This is what the #ThinkSeries is about. Getting a solid perspective on what might happen, thinking about it, planning for it and then not being surprised by it.

Hosted by respected journalist, Andrew Cave, the inaugural #ThinkSeries is to be held in London, between 5.30-7.30pm on October 12th. Andy will be joined by Simon Calver, a partner at bgf Ventures and Juliet Barratt, co-founder of Grenade. Both are in the business of growth. Indeed, bgf stands for Business Growth Fund. Grenade (you may not have heard of it) is a British explosive growth success story.

Along with Chairman of Memery Crystal, Lesley Gregory and others, expect a dynamic debate which I'm sure will help people look at their business, what Brexit might mean for it, and perhaps get some thinking going as to maintaining growth during it, whether soft, hard or even - reversed...

Along with Andy, Lesley, Juliet and Simon I hope to see you there.

Will King, Entrepreneur-in-Residence, Memery Crystal LLP
