Welcome to June 2023 edition of the our monthly newsletter.

1. Data Driven Journalism Batch 2: 14 journalists participated in the initial phase of the second batch of our Data Driven Journalism training. The immersive six-day face-to-face training took place at our Classroom from May 28 to June 2, where participants acquired a range of data journalism skills. The training was led by facilitators Umesh Shrestha, Arun Karki, and Tilak Pathak. Currently, the journalists have transitioned to the e-learning phase and will reconvene for the final six-day intensive training after a six-week interval.

2. Podcasting course: The application period for our podcasting courses scheduled for July-September and September-November 2023 has now concluded. We are pleased to announce that we received an overwhelming response, with over 80 applications submitted for these courses. Our selection committee is currently reviewing the applications and will carefully select the most qualified participants for the courses.   • Our trainer Umesh Shrestha was invited to a panel on media introspection during the Himal Media Mela on May 4. The two-day event is the leading industry conference on journalism and media.
  • Our trainer and CMR-Nepal Executive Director, Tilak Pathak, attended the On Think Tank Conference on "think tanks and political uncertainty" in London, UK, on May 10-11.
  • Our trainers Bhuwan KC and Umesh Shrestha were invited to speak about journalism, reporting, and misinformation by Space 4K television during a newsroom talk on May 24.
  • Our director Ujjwal Acharya and CMR-Nepal chairperson Trishna Acharya participated in the International Communication Association's Regional Hubs Conference in Karnataka, India, hosted by Manipal Academy of Higher Education from May 26 to 31, 2023. They each presented a paper, and Mr. Acharya was also part of a panel.
  • CMR-Nepal's fact-checking initiative, NepalFactCheck.org, became a signatory of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) on May 30.
