Journaling Our Way into a Better Mental Health

Hello beautiful people!?

I hope you all are doing well.?

May is the month of Mental Health awareness and this month, I want to encourage you to start journaling.?

While it is true that talking to people about our challenges could relieve us from some of our burdens, writing on the other hand is also therapeutic.?

I recall how my writing journey began in 2015. At that time, I was struggling to find my light in this world. I was also going through a rough patch mentally but one day I picked up a pen and wrote the most beautiful poem about myself. That day, writing did not only help me unburden, but it also improved my self-esteem as I struggled with body dysmorphia as a teenager.?

You should be aware that you do not have to be a professional writer to start journaling your thoughts. You could start by waking up in the morning to write down your plans for the day. Write down the things that upset you or bring you joy, your prayers, desires, and your thoughts.

Also, write down the new hobbies or things you would love to do, write down the places you would love to visit. Write a letter to yourself daily and at the end of the month, reflect on it to see the areas of improvement. As you journal daily, I urge you to begin to reach into your innermost parts; to know who you are and the things you love to do.?

Furthermore, as you take your first step into journaling your thoughts, please be encouraged that you are also taking time to care for your Mental health. As researchers have pointed out, writing helps relieve psychological stress, improve mood, and reduce depression, and anxiety.?

On this note, May is our month of Journaling. For every day that you write, you are taking a step towards better mental health. So, please do well to get a journal. You could also connect with me to be your accountability partner.?

I look forward to sharing your progress on journaling.?

Love and light!?
