Introduction:
The purpose of this paper is to provide the most efficient way to control the Common data environment (CDE) to get the utmost benefits for involved stakeholders in a project.
1.?????What are data and documents?
Data are not simply varied but mercurial as ethnographic objects. Their nature can change depending on the purpose for which they are used or what they are used for?(Star & Ruhleder, 1996).
In addition to this as per practical experiences, the author says that the meaning of data changes as per the requirement, and situation data might include numbers, facts, and figures or any information this could be in any means or forms.
The word "document" usually refers to a text record. More sophisticated attempts to provide access to a rapidly increasing number of available documents raise the question of what should be considered a "document." The answer is important in defining the scope of information science. Paul Outlet and others fostered a useful perspective on "records" and examined, for instance, regardless of whether models, exhibition hall articles, and living creatures could be thought of as "reports." Suzanne Briet compared the "archive" with coordinated actual proof. These thoughts appear to look like the idea of "material culture" in social human studies and "item as a sign" in semiotics. Others, especially the United States (such as Jesse Shera and Louis Shores), saw a closer perspective. New digital technology updates old questions and old confusion between media, messages, meaning. ? 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. (Buckland, 1997).
As far as the author experienced in his study about the subject called documents, is something that can serve as official record it might be a paper, either written or printed or electronic information container.
2.????What is Common Data Environment (CDE)?
A Common Data Environment (CDE) is a focal storehouse where development project data is housed. It is the center point of data for the project. It is utilized to gather, oversee, work together, and share project data with the undertaking group ?(Carey, 2020).
In addition to this author found that an ideal CDE solution is capable enough not only to ensure the project delivery in the most efficient possible way but also with the minimum errors and the maximum use of available technology. In addition to this, a CDE solution should ensure high quality, reliable and accurate graphical, geospatial, and non-graphical data is collected, maintained, and made available to everyone through an appropriate, secure, role-based, user-focused interface
3.????Ways to control the document and data in the (CDE)?
Mervyn Richards – in the webinar “Causes and Effects/Case Study Benefits and Barriers” dated 15th Oct 2021, Explained the way to control the data in the CDE as followed:
a)?????To establish this the ‘suitability’ method has been suggested
b)????For each, a Status Code was developed.
c)?????The Status-Code is defined as an Alphanumeric code e.g S0 (WIP)
d)????With a description of the suitability defined as a text string stated by the originator of the file.
Figure1.1 - Example Suitability and Status Codes (Source ? 2020 MR1 Consulting Ltd)
Some examples Sign Off Status codes is below. These are different from the ISO codes and are defined by practice on projects. See the CDE module for practical application:
Figure1.2 - Example Suitability and Status Codes (Source ? 2020 MR1 Consulting Ltd)
As per Mervyn Richards, Once handed over (stage 6, A6, S7) as useable for the initial maintenance model (AIM) and the deliverables within the file has been checked and VALIDATED during the Post Occupation Evaluation, then the CLIENT ACCEPT’s the information and the CLIENT changes the state to CR (CONSTRUCTION RECORD) within their AIM (CDE) solution.
1.????Conclusion:
Following ISO 19650 guidelines the prime purpose of Common Data Environment (CDE) is to streamline collaboration between the different stockholders of the project. Furthermore, the benefits of CDE and the way to achieve them are as followed:
a)?????Accuracy: To reach the desired accuracy level, stakeholders must follow the predefined industry standards.
b)????Efficiency: CDE solutions are capable to have real-time updates, so it is advisable to use the CDE links in email rather than putting the documents as attachments.
c)?????Accountability: Accountability should be clearly defined and attributed, which means stakeholders must know, who is responsible for what?
?
As per planBIM there are five CDE solutions are available in the market as followed:
a)?????Autodesk BIM 360: BIM 360 is a united platform connecting the project teams and data simultaneously, since design through construction, supporting well-versed decision-making and leading to more predictable and profitable outcomes.
b)????Trimble Connect: Trimble Connect is an open collaboration means that connects the right people to the right data at the right time – enabling informed decision making and enhancing project efficiency.
c)?????Bentley ProjectWise: Bentley ProjectWise enables a linked data location to industrialized project workflows and delivers on-demand insights
d)????Procore: Procore is the all-in-one construction management package built to help operators finish quality projects—safely, on time, and within budget.
e)????Allplan Bimplus: Allplan Bimplus is the eventual open BIM stage for all disciplines to collaborate efficiently in building projects.
f)??????Techture planBIM: planBIM is a cloud-based app for handling and implementing BIM on any scheme. It can be retrieved on the web, on mobile, or even inside BIM authoring tools like Revit. (Voditel, 2021)
