The Joseph School Year-End Report

Its been another amazing year for The Joseph School. Thank you for your interest and support by giving, going, praying and encouraging. The school has been blessed in many, many ways in 2018. Here is a quick summary of some of them:

Education

• Expanded to 120 students in grades 1-4
• Now serving over 150 Haitian families counting staff and students
• Wrote and introduced new curriculum in math, science, english, handwriting and language arts to supplement Haitian curriculum
• Completed a new classroom building and moved to our permanent campus
• Completed 3 teacher trainings. One training team noted, "The Joseph School teachers scored higher than any school we have ever assessed in Haiti."
• Prepared and served over 54,000 meals to students and staff to improve learning and combat malnutrition.

Economic Impact

• Provided over 40 full-time jobs at the school in a country with 75% unemployment.
• Total Economic Impact of $1.2 million in a country where the average person earns $2/day.
• Uniform Sewing Program. Trained parents to sew TJS uniforms, providing marketable skills and jobs to the community.
• Soles 4 Souls Partnership -- Distributed shoes to parents and others in the community to sell in the local market providing jobs and income for local families.

Next Up

• Complete classroom building #2
• Host medical teams to work in the school and community
• Refine and expand the new curriculum
• Grow to 150 students in grades 1-5 (Sept. 2019)
• Begin building a dining hall/chapel
