Joseph, Dreams the post Corona Era

As we read about Joseph and his brothers in Synagogue today, I couldn't help but think how relevant his story is for us today, individually and communally. Joseph transforms from dream-interpreting shepherd to minister of Egypt. He emerges from the depths of a pit, from underground jail and transforms himself, reunites with his brothers and helps secure the future of his people.

The photos of frontline working friends receiving the COVID19 vaccine fills me with great excitement. We are beginning to see how we are going to emerge from this corona pit and be able to re-enter the world like we were once used to. Yet, let us not be fooled for one moment - nothing will be the same. Whole COVID was a change agent for so much in our lives, it was a far greater accelerant of trends already well underway in every facet of our lives. In a way that only Prof Galloway can do, he shares great insights about the many changes happening around us.

One constant throughout corona (and before) that has been such a savior for me has been Shabbat. Living 24/6 is magic. It defies the laws of physics, as it both slows down time and gives us more of it. As Tiffany writes "I laugh a lot more on that day without screens. I notice everything in greater detail. I sleep better. It strengthens my relationships and makes me feel healthier. It allows me to read, think, be more creative, and reflect in a deeper way."

While the change is coming, and it will certainly include technology - the island of Shabbat will always remain as constant.

We are dreamers.

Lets dream an end to this plague. It truly is in our midst. Lets make sure we are ready.
