Joseph Anthony Joyce, CRNA Joins 2023 Class of American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology Fellows

Park Ridge, Illinois; August 19, 2023— The American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (AANA) has awarded Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) Joseph Anthony Joyce, CRNA of Eagle Physicians/Eagle Anesthesiology/Eagle Endoscopy ?the designation of Fellow of the AANA (FAANA) – a recognized marker of leadership and professionalism in the profession and science of nurse anesthesiology.

Mr. Joyce, an AANA member since 1990, earned this distinguished designation by demonstrating an exceptional level of expertise, service, and commitment to transforming the nurse anesthesia profession.
Joseph currently is a staff CRNA at Eagle Endoscopy Center, since 2018.? Prior to coming to Eagle Endoscopy, Joseph worked at Wesley Long Community Hospital---a division of Cone Health—for just short of 27 years, followed by a couple years with Carolina Anesthesia Associates.? Joseph has been a practicing CRNA in North Carolina for 34 years.? He has authored 28 professional papers on various topics in anesthesia, authored chapters in several anesthesia books and textbooks, is the sole author of Perianesthesia Patient Care for Uncommon Diseases (published in 2008) and is the co-editor of Pharmacology for Nurse Anesthesiology (published in 2010).? Joseph was named a North Carolina Great 100 RNs in 2010 and received the Francis “Joe” Daneliller Award for Excellence in Anesthesia Education in 2011.? Joseph was also a 1996 recipient of the AANA Fellowship for Scientific Writing.? He has been a guest lecturer at the nurse anesthesia program at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro/Wake Forrest Baptist Medical Center school of Nurse Anesthesiology on numerous occasions.
The FAANA designation is the organization’s most elite professional achievement. By earning the right to include this designation among their credentials, Fellows have demonstrated a high level of commitment to the growth and advancement of nurse anesthesiology.

Joseph has been in practice for 34 years, providing anesthesia almost exclusively in Greensboro at Wesley Long Community Hospital and other nearby facilities.? He received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1981, his Associate in Applied Sciences in Associate Degree Nursing from Forsyth Technical Community College in 1983, and his Certificate in Nurse Anesthesia from the Charleston Area Medical Center School of Nurse Anesthesiology in Charleston, West Virginia in 1989. ?Joseph has been a member of the Editorial Board for Current Reviews for Nurse Anesthetists since 2009.? Joseph has been a Freemason since 1985, is a Scottish Rite Mason in the Valley of Greensboro Orient of North Carolina, and is a Shriner in the Amran Shrine in Raleigh. ?Fifty-eight CRNAs were inducted in the 2023 class of AANA Fellows, joining the 116 Fellows inducted in previous classes. To be awarded the FAANA distinction, applicants must be credentialed as a CRNA for a minimum of 10 consecutive years; be an AANA member for at least10 years; have a minimum of 10 years of full-time professional experience as a practitioner of ?anesthesiology or educator/program director, facility leader or business leader; have a record of attending AANA conferences; demonstrate outstanding achievements in nurse anesthesia and leadership that command respect and recognition from other leaders in the profession; and provide evidence of enduring and substantial professional achievement that demonstrates professional and personal growth and use of innovative, creative solutions in at least one of several categories.
