A Jolt to the Electric Vehicle Market: Ford Introduces F-150 Lightning

3 days. That’s how long you can power your house with the new Ford F-150 Lightning.

4 seconds. The time it takes for the F-150 Lightning to go from 0-60 mph.

40 percent. The amount of parts we’ve been able to eliminate from this truck by moving to the all-electric version. This means a lower cost of ownership and more time on the road.

This truck is revolutionary. It’s like no other truck you’ve ever driven or owned. It’s faster than a Raptor, has 300 miles of range, a power frunk (front trunk), standard 4x4, bi-directional charging; and it’s priced under $40,000—which is more competitive than its gas-powered equivalent…and that’s before the tax incentive! The features of this incredible vehicle are awesome (you can read all about it here), but the new F-150 Lightning is so much more. Sure, it’s high tech and innovative, but this dramatic reinvention of an iconic American workhorse is proof of Ford’s confidence: it’s not just different, it is about to ignite customers with passion for electric vehicles.

When people ask me why this vehicle is a gamechanger for our industry, the answer is simple: scale. We sell 1.1 million F-150 units a year and F-Series has been America’s favorite vehicle for nearly half a century. We know truck customers better than anyone and they trust us. If there’s any company that’s going to take them into the electric future, it’s Ford. This is not meant to sound arrogant. In fact, the opposite is true. We spent the last four years approaching this vehicle with humility and empathy, understanding what the customer needs to take the leap into EVs. This is why our truck still looks like, well, a truck. Sure, we could have designed it to look like a spaceship since we are no longer constrained by an internal combustion engine, but then we’d be building a truck for shock value. Instead, we innovated on behalf of the customer, giving them both the familiar and the future in one package, all while keeping the cost down. At Ford, we believe that in order to democratize EVs, affordability cannot be a prohibitor.

Same is true for the Mustang Mach-E. When we launched this vehicle, we redefined the American muscle car for the electric era. When I pass a driver behind the wheel of one on the road today, I can’t help pulling up alongside and giving a big “thumbs-up”. The team achieved true greatness, and Mach-E drivers have the most exciting battery-electric vehicle on the road today. That’s about to get better with E-Transit and the F-150 Lightning. These products represent Ford’s readiness for the future where the right answer is going to look a little different than it did in the past, but all of it underpinned by our relentless drive to earn your trust.

“What’s next?” That’s what my grandfather, who worked on the latest Ford models and innovations more than a hundred years ago, would always ask. The future begs to be lived right now. So as we continue to transform Ford and reimagine our most iconic vehicles, I can’t imagine being more excited than I am about the Ford F-150 Lightning. This vehicle will truly revolutionize the way we think about what our vehicles can do – and what the truck of the future has in store, now.

I've got no recourse with Ford... I'm told its ok for my 2020 f150 with a 5.0 motor with 60,100 miles to use 2 quarts of oil every 3,000 miles. LOOK IT UP! This is Fords stance on quality and responsiveness to customer needs... I'VE NEVER HAD A CAR IN MY 62 YEARS ON THIS EARTH THAT USED 2 QUARTS OF OIL EVERY 3,000. MILES. NO more warranty and no response to help from Ford. I can buy added protection for $4500. Is this Fords loyalty to a F150 owner for over 40 years... HELP...... SUCKS!

Hey Jim, I know this may not be the right way I wanted to ask this but I have run into tons of no returned calls or my old contacts are no longer there ( Edsel ) lol - I need to speak to someone in whatever department you suggest to get started but this is huge and I would rather not go into detail here, but let's just say it involves the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade 100th Anniversary and the 100th Anniversary of Route 66 together as one starting this year leading up to 2026. There is more but I must keep that quiet. Thank god I don't have a NDA signed yet. Could you PLEASE ask someone to contact me ASAP via message here and I can give them the contact info or they can email me directly at [email protected] . Let's just say, there is a big reason I need to speak to someone at Ford about this. Hey, did you know that in 1926 Ford was the ONLY car to drive on Route 66. Then fast forward ahhh something like over 100 years and Ford is now driving on Route 66 still to this day but this time it's ELECTRIC :) Hope you can help me get to the right person, I believe your their boss... LOL Thanks, Alan - Btw - AGREE with you! it's also the FIRST EV Truck to drive ALL of Route 66! I know , we did it!

Since the F-550 EarthRoamer is so successful, what have you got planned for a MoonRoamer F-series? I'm sure Tesla will be happy to fill the void, if nobody else does. There's got to be a government contract out for this somewhere, eh? ??
