THE ENGLISH CLOWN WHO CHANGED THE WORLD

In 1917 he built his own film studio on Sunset Boulevard. This gave him the independence to make the kind of films he wanted and how many he wanted.

In 1919 he created his own distribution company United Artists together with Douglas Fairbanks, Mary Pickford and D. W. Griffith. They started funding their own movies, which gave them complete artistic control.

His first short films weren't much more than a series of improvised gags built around his comical character the Tramp. After 1920 he put much more preparation into a film by developing a full-grown plot and combining the gags with romance and with social or political issues. He was a control freak who acted, directed and wrote the screenplay and music himself. He showed the other actors how they were supposed to play their role.

He is the founder of the feature-length film comedy.

HIS FILMS LIKE 'CITY LIGHTS','CIRCUS', 'MODERN TIMES'AND ' THE GREAT DICTATOR' AMONG MANY OF HIS OTHER MASTERPIECES HAVE PROFOUNDLY INFLUENCED THE HUMAN CONSCIOUSNESS WITH THE VIVID AWARENESS OF THE PAINS OF DEHUMANIZATION,FUTILITY OF ATTACHMENT, ALIENATION AND THE WAGES OF WARS.

Fellini called him the Adam of film.

HE WAS NONE OTHER THAN CHARLES SPENCER CHAPLIN!
