One such example is The Victaulic Company of Japan, a part of the wider Mutsubishi Rubber group. Formed in the 1930s with investment from British company 'Victaulic', they have since gone on to become a leader in the niche field of pipe joints, providing strength and flexibility in times of natural disasters. In a country that experiences almost 1,500 earthquakes per year, their products have become something of a necessity.
Due to Japan's aging infrastructure across?730,000 km of water pipelines, a 2019 survey found that?approximately 20% of these had surpassed limits in terms of lifespan. Victaulic's retrofitting system allows for pipes to be isolated and repaired, while their 'Vicsensor II' cloud system enables real-time tracking of seismic expansion from remote locations.
