Join The Women In Tech (WIT) Movement

It was 2013 and I was waiting to get up on stage at Stockholm Tech Meet-Up and the 4th female tech group in a row - "The Python Ladies" or "PyLadies" - got up on stage. Each group had talked passionately about their specific interest in tech, telling inspiring stories of their great work and I was wondering why me and the rest of audience never had heard of these "women in tech" before - I decided this had to change.

Being a technology geek and father of two daughters, I hope that my girls will share my passion for technology and get the opportunity to early meet great companies, start-ups and people that can inspire them. However, for this to happen many things need to change at the same time - from our parenting, our education system, to our companies hiring bias and corporate culture. Starting WIT seemed (at the time) like a good first step.

Most technology companies are today totally male dominated. I would argue, that there needs to be a much more diverse workforce in a media and technology companies that create products and services for a global audience (with 50% women) for these companies to have any chance of long-term global success. Since most tech companies today are managed and owned by men - logic would also state that men also need to take active part of changing the status quo or there will be no grow of women in tech.

Today (2019), on International Women's Day, we run 6th Women In Tech (WIT) conference in Stockholm with 1,500 WIT participants and an active online community of +10,000. The mission of WIT is to inspire talented women to consider a future in media and technology by providing the network and experience of successful women and men from the corporate and entrepreneurial worlds. Each year major global brands join forces in an unique industry collaboration to provide the platform and network for women to meet all over the tech industry - this is just the beginning of thing to come.

The WIT movement has spread like dry California summer forest fire since our first event in 2014 - it is unstoppable! With thousands of WIT joining on social media and starting new WIT groups every day. The impact in coming years will be significant.

To take the next step for WIT Globally we need leaders and visionaries, we need thinkers and doers, we need women and men, we need you to take action today, we need you to make a difference, without you there will be no Women In Tech.
