Our world is changing drastically.
If we look back in time we see millions of years pass between the origin of our genus to the emergence of the human species. As civilization developed, millennia would pass between major technological revolutions (from the stone age to the iron age, etc.). In more recent times we had revolutionary jumps in the scales going from centuries to decades — such as the development of the printing press, the industrial revolution, the advent of modern science, and more. Over the past century we've learned that other galaxies exist, that the universe is expanding, that many worlds exist around other stars, and that our place in the cosmos appears to not be as preordained and "special" as some of our ancestors may have thought.
In just the years that have passed since the year 2000 CE, so much has happened in realms of space exploration, medical science, longevity research, AI, the internet, and more. The pace of change is quickening, and yet, as MLK Jr. once remarked, we have come to a time of having "guided missiles and misguided men."
We're building a future that few have dreamed of, and yet we also live in an age full of uncertainty, fear, and emotional reactivity. Social media has connected us across the globe while also driving influencer culture and doomscrolling. We all could use a little more presence, a little more thoughtfulness about our place here on Earth, and maybe even a little more time considering our place in the future.
For these reasons and more, I think you should become part of SpaceKind !
So much is happening right now in space exploration. From commercial space tourism expanding our presence in space, the incredible robotic missions we have exploring Mars, or upcoming missions like Europa Clipper and Dragonfly exploring worlds like Europa and Titan, there is so much happening, and many of us in the space industry or with interests in space exploration are continually being blown away by how much closer we're getting to the imagined futures of sci-fi like Star Trek.
But the human part of the story is sometimes underplayed. Humans with grand goals and dreams have helped build this reality. People are traveling into space and experiencing what it's like to see our world from the outside. And many of us know that we have a part to play in it all, either here on Earth or in our own future in space. And that's where SpaceKind training plays a role for many of us.
SpaceKind is a leadership training program that aims to explore the human side of space exploration and prepare the next generation with what its founder, Loretta Hidalgo Whitesides , has called The New Right Stuff .

Within the training of SpaceKind, you work with a cohort of like minded explorers (all of us crew on this Spaceship Earth) and consider what your role is in the space industry and our future in space, you explore your own emotional side and consider what is holding you back from being what you know you can be, and you network with those of us who know that our human future in space requires explorers who aren't just physically tough but who are also emotionally open, resilient, and kind.
Graduates of the program include astronauts, scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs, policy makers, doctors, and visionaries.
Just to name a few: Erin Bonilla, Eiman Jahangir, Andy Sadhwani, Ruby Patterson, Chris Gerty, Don Balanzat, Ron Rosano, Frank White, Colleen McLeod Garner, Carmen K?hler, and myself!
Not only am I an advocate for you taking your place as part of SpaceKind, but I'm also going to be a group lead for the 14th crew, which starts on 11 September.
If you've felt like space is part of your life or your future, but you need some help exploring your role. If you want to work with others in an aspect of career and life development that is often under-appreciated by learning to be open, honest, true, and kind. If you want to help us build the future of humanity beyond Earth. Then, SpaceKind training is right for you.
