Join The Global Paint for Charity, Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful, and Gwinnett County Solid Waste Division & Partners in celebration of 2021 Earth Day at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds, 2405 Sugarloaf Pkwy Lawrenceville, GA 30045, on Saturday, April 24th, between 9 am and 12 pm. You will have the opportunity to drop off items that are usually more difficult to recycle, such as electronics, Latex, oil-based paint, and tires. Paper shredding will also be available.
This event is free to the Gwinnett County residents. We expect to recycle over 6000 gallons of paint in just three hours. The COVID-19 pandemic caused many people to renovate their homes, resulting in tons of leftover paints in their basement and garage. Have you done any renovations to your home recently? Do you have leftover latex paints from your quarantine projects that you can’t get rid of? (huff!! huff!!) Well, we have some good news for you. Celebrate 2021 Earth Day by bringing your paint for recycling to support our paint inventory for local community beautification projects and our paint donation programs worldwide. Donate your leftover paints and help us change lives.
Here are some essential things to remember before you come:
- Oil-based and Latex paint will be accepted and limited to 10 gallons per vehicle (Cans must contain 25% wet paint). Make sure you seal the lid of the containers (buckets and cans) tightly.
- Electronics ($15 cash fee per monitor or TV; $5 cash fee per printer)
- Paper (shredding up to 5 copier boxes)
- Tires are limited to eight tires per vehicle; no dealer tires
Please note we will adhere to COVID19 Guidelines as provided by the State Government.
General COVID19 Precautions: To ensure the safety of our attendees, partners, staff, and volunteers, there will be certain precautions in place to help navigate the COVID19 social distancing guidelines:
- All attendees are encouraged to wear masks.
- All attendees should remain in their vehicle at all times
- Items and materials to be recycled should be placed in disposable containers or boxes
- Containers (Buckets or Cans of paint) or boxes of quarts should be placed in the trunks or backs of vehicles where they will be removed by Global Paint representatives and will not be returned.
This level of preparedness and awareness will enable a safe and successful event for everyone. For more information, please call the Solid Waste Call Center at 770.822.7141 or Global Paint for Charity at 855-853-7772.
Earth Day is an annual event celebrated around the world in April to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First celebrated in 1970, it now includes events coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network in more than 193 countries. It may be hard to imagine that before 1970, a factory could spew black clouds of toxic smoke into the air or dump tons of hazardous and toxic waste into landfills, and that was perfectly legal. There was no Clean Air Act, no U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), no Clean Water Act, and most importantly, there were no legal or regulatory guidelines and tools to protect our environment. They could not be taken to court to stop illegal dumping.
Recycling is good for the earth, so in honor of the 2021 Earth Day event, Global Paint and Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful encourage you to protect our planet and not abuse it. Please check our TAKE ACTION page for information about organizing a Paint Drive in your community, or to learn more, visit www.globalpaints.org -TAKE ACTION!!
Volunteer opportunities: Registration is encouraged.
If you are looking for some community service hours or an exciting activity to make a difference on Earth Day this year, this is the place to be!! While the event will be from 9 am-noon, volunteers are needed from 7:30 am to 1 pm to help set-up and unload the vehicles and from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm to help unload the paint donation at Global Paint’s Center. If you arrive later than 8 am, you will not be able to volunteer, so if you want to help with this opportunity, please arrive early. The minimum commitment is 5 hours, and all volunteers will receive a free Earth Day T-shirt, PPE, masks, gloves, and a safety vest. To sign up as a volunteer for this event, please visit Volunteer – Global Paint for Charity or click https://www.globalpaints.org/volunteer/ or https://www.volunteergwinnett.net/.
About Global Paint for Charity
Global Paint for Charity is a non-governmental organization that collects Latex paint. Its goal is to reduce paint waste and to give individuals who don’t have access to paint the opportunity to beautify their homes and communities. Global Paint for Charity is the largest sustainable paint waste management organization in the world. Since 2010, GPC has recycled over 370,000 tons of latex paint and has provided paint to over 44 different countries and 40 major cities in the U.S. Its mission is to recover paint from businesses and residents to change individuals' lives in underserved communities - one gallon at a time.
The paint is colorful and diverse. It is impactful, and Global Paint is actively looking for Board Directors and Advisors who reflect those characteristics. The organization currently needs a full board with varying backgrounds, such as Accounting & Finance, Non-profit, Legal, Environmental, Logistics & Supply Chain, PR & Marketing, Communications, and Government. Members of the Board will be volunteering their time to support Global Paint's work and promote a sustainable and beautiful world.
Passion for Global Paint’s mission as leaders of the organization is paramount. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who care about the environment and wish to help people in under-resourced and under-privileged residencies. Members of GPC’s Board will further develop lifelong connections throughout the non-profit and paint industries. If interested, candidates can submit their resumes and a one-page bio to Global Paint’s Founder and Executive Director, Rony Delgarde, at [email protected] or visit https://www.volunteermatch.org/results/opp_detail.jsp?oppid=1976212 for more details on the position.
