Join the Pack or Go It Alone

The CEO is the only person in the company who doesn’t have a peer.  (This is why it’s lonely at the top).  This one page article from INC shares the story of a CEO, a self-described introvert, who joined a Vistage group (TEC Canada's US Organization) and how his fellow CEO members went from “outsiders to insiders” in a matter of months.

Being a "Lone Wolf" makes for great movies, but the reality is that wolves are way more successful in packs and being a "Lone Wolf" is usually not the choice of the wolf, but he is kicked out of the pack or the rest of the pack dies. Lone Wolves attempt to form or join a new pack. Some business leaders think it is heroic, tough or cool to be a lone wolf. Joining a pack (if you are a wolf) or a Peer Advisory Group (if you're a business leader) increases your chances to be successful .

So who is in your advisory group. Boards, employees and even family members have skin in the game. They all have agendas and that is why you need a Peer Advisory board with other peer business leaders in non-competitive industries. It also needs to be a confidential and safe environment so you can truly and freely share with confidence
