Dafferns Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers
A full service accounting firm based in Coventry and Warwickshire with national and international reach.
The work in an accountancy firm like ours can be challenging and fast-paced, always requiring strong analytical skills, attention to detail and the ability to communicate complex financial information in a clear and concise manner.?
‘A day in the life’ of an auditor varies depending on the specific job and industry of course, but here is an overview of what a typical day could look like:?
Reviewing client documents
We spend a lot of time reviewing client documents to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards. This includes financial statements, invoices, contracts, and other relevant records.?
Preparing and reviewing statutory accounts
This is a significant part of what we do, as ultimately the audit is of the statutory accounts; their preparation and review is a large part of our job, setting us apart from other firms that are purely audit focused.?
Conducting interviews
We may also need to interview key personnel within the client organisation to gather information and better understand the client’s business processes.?
Analysing data
We use data analysis tools and techniques to identify trends and anomalies in financial data. This involves analysing sales data, inventory levels or other financial metrics to identify potential risks or areas of concern.?

Preparing audit reports
Once the audit is complete, we prepare a report summarising our findings and recommendations to the client. This report is typically reviewed by senior management within the client organisation.?
Attending meetings?
We attend meetings with client management and other stakeholders to discuss our findings and answer any questions or concerns they may have.?
Continuing education?
We are required to stay up to date with changes to accounting standards and regulations. It’s a mix of attending training sessions and completing online courses to maintain knowledge and skills. As an award-winning training firm, we also carry out continuous internal training, attended by the whole team and run by seniors, managers and senior managers.?
Joining our team
Our work as auditors requires attention to detail, analytical skills, strong communications skills, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
