Who is StepUp.One?

We are a social impact enterprise reskilling thousands of forgotten refugees stuck in UNHCR camps for decades into digital professionals & deploying them to deliver sales, marketing & recruitment for hundreds of global companies for $300 per month.

Who is Celo?

Celo is a fully EVM compatible proof-of-stake layer-1 protocol, featuring a fast ultralight client and built-in seigniorage stablecoins, collateralized by crypto and natural assets.

What is this hackathon?

The Celo x Huobi hackathon aims to bring together incredible people working on innovative solutions to not only sustain our planet but define what the Web3.0 mobile DeFi landscape will look like.

Background about StepUp.One and our angle for this Hackathon:

This conversation between Satya (Microsoft) and Mohamed (Kakuma Refugee Camp) at the WEF Davos 2019 inspired the creation of StepUp.One. Together with UNHCR, we started a pilot with 5 refugee graduates in 2019 and have scaled to 1,000+ refugee graduates across Africa, here’s our story. We are now scaling the venture to 10,000 refugee graduates in Kakuma in 2022 and then expanding to the top 10 refugee camps.

Here is our pitch deck on how we plan to do that.

We aim to reskill and employ 1 million of these forgotten refugees in 1 marketable skill and deliver $1 billion in revenue by 2032.

Having spent the last 3 years growing this venture, I realise solving this global crisis that has festered for over 5 decades can only be done through web 3.0. I also realised why pouring billions of dollars will never solve this issue,?instead, we need the greatest minds to come together to solve this.

Core Ideas to think about :

Refugees are both undocumented & unbanked. How can we make them productive and earn money as well as create an ecosystem and own it?

1. How can we bring the 4 key stakeholders of StepUp.One to Own the ecosystem that they are creating ( Refugees, Clients, Ambassadors & Investors)?
2. How can we bring the 4 stakeholders exchange value ( services delivered & money exchanged ) without losing much in the process?
